Hiawatha's Jordan Puvogel & Sabetha's Trenton Cox Win Big Seven League Cross Country Meet

The Big Seven League features some of the top cross country runners in the Northeast Kansas and the state and at the league meet they meet up against each other all together.

The league meet was hosted at Holton this year and it was the Sabetha Bluejays grabbing of three of the first places avialable on the day winning both team crowns and the individual boys crown. Behind the running of Trenton Cox who took first in the boys competition the Sabetha Bluejay boys soared to a top finish as a team with a total of 62 points. Trenton ran a time of 17:59.00 on the day which was nearly 30 seconds better than that of second place.

Trenton was joined in the top 10 by his fellow Bluejay teammate, Corbin Cox who took home a fourt place finish. But Sabetha wasn't the only team to have multiple runners finish in the top 10 as Hiawatha, Nemaha Valley and Jefferson West each had two boys finish in the top 10, also. For the Redhawks it was a fifth and sixth place finish for Connor Winters and Tyler Boeckman, while the Raiders of Nemaha Valley notched a fourth and tenth place finish with Colin Lierz and Mikeal Sperfslage, respectively. The Tigers of Jefferson West took home a seventh and eighth place finish behind the running of Micah LaCrone and Jacob Lawhorn.

Other top 10 finishers in the boys competition were from Royal Valley and Holton. Thomas Broxterman of Royal Valley had the second best time of the day taking home second place, while for Holton it was Dalton Colhouer registering a ninth place.

While, Sabetha captured the boys team title they were followed by Royal Valley in second and Hiawatha who finished third only a few points shy of Royal Valley at second.

On the girls competition it was the Bluejays again grabbing the team crown but it yet again a Hiawatha Redhawk that set the tone on her way to a first place finish, as Jordan Puvogel captured first place, continuing to dominate this season. Finishing behind the Bluejays in team points was Santa Fe Trail in second and Hiawatha in third.

For the individual performances, it was Puvogel of Hiawatha winning again as she has won every competition she as competed in this year. She out ran the competition at the league meet by a whole minute registering at time of 16:28.00, a minute ahead of second place. Following, Jordan was a Sabetha Bluejay, in Taryn Schuette grabbing second place with three more of her teammates placing in the top 10, also. The other Bluejays registering a top 10 finish included Miranda Huettner finishing fourth, Megan Plattner placing ninth and Ashley Annan taking home tenth.

Santa Fe Trail was the only other girls team to place multiple runners in the top 10 outside of Sabetha, as the Chargers took home fifth, seventh and eighth places on the day. Devin DeShazer, Mak Herren and Jennifer Hall were the top 10 finishers for the Chargers on the day placing in that order.

The other top 10 finishers on the day included Holton's, Connor Strader who placed third on the day and Jefferson West Tiger, Michaela Jernberg who placed sixth.
