(KLZA)-- The Falls City Sacred Heart Lady Irish will be the top seed in the Class D2 Girls Class D2 State Basketball Tournament beginning Thursday, March 5 in Lincoln.
The Irish defeated Hampton 53-23 in a District Championship game Friday night at Norris High School
The Irish (25-2) will play at Lincolns North Star High School Thursday morning at 10:45 a-m against Crawford, a team that is 21-3 on the season.
Sacred Heart is ranked #1 and have won 20 straight games. A win Thursday would put the Irish in the semi-finals Friday at the Devaney Sports Center at 2 p-m. The championship game would be played Saturday at 4:30 p-m at Pinnacle Bank Arena. A third place contest Saturday will be played at 9 a-m at Lincoln Southwest High School.
Sacred Heart would play against either #4 seed Mullen (21-4) or #5 seed Stuart (21-5) on Friday in the semi-finals.
The other D2 State qualifiers are #2 seed Wynot who will play #7 seed Hampton Thursday night. #3 seed Sandhills-Thedford (21-4) will play #6 seed Giltner (21-4) Thursday.
Other teams from the region to qualify are Freeman in Class C2. The Falcons are the third seed and will play #6 Sutton Thrusday at 8:45 p-m. Yutan from the ECNC Conference also has qualified and is seeded #5. Yutan will play GACC in the opening round.
The Friend Bulldogs from the Pioneer Conference will be the #8 seed in Class D1 and will take on top seed St. Mary’s in the opening round Thursday at 2 p-m,
