Both Nemaha Central and Riverside came into their baseball double header on Monday looking to find some consistency and get things rolling this season after rough starts to the year and the Thunder were able point themselves in the right direction with a sweep of the Cyclones. The Thunder struck for 13-1 and 14-4 victories in Wathena.

The action started off in game one with Nemaha Central taking the early lead with a run in the first inning and took control of the game with four-run second and third frames to lead 9-0, before Riverside broke through in the bottom of third with their lone run of the game. The Thunder added another tally in the top of the fifth and three more in the top of seventh to cap off the 13-1 win. Dalton Hiltbrand earned the win on the mound for Nemaha Central while both Devin Henry and Cody Rottinghaus each registered three hits for the Thunder. Henry finished the game 3-4 with a double and four runs scored, while Rottinghaus was 3-5 with a double. Riverside was limited to four hits in the game, but Jacob Rupe and Colton Munger did each register a double in contest, while Phoenix Keller took the loss on the mound.

Riverside took early control in game two but a big inning late by Nemaha Central pushed the Thunder to the two game sweep in Wathena. The Cyclones struck first plating two runs in the bottom of the first inning on just one hit, but two walks, a hit batter and a Thunder error. Nemaha Central answered in the top of the second as RBI singles by Neil Sudbeck and Ryan Hasenkamp tied the game at two apiece. In the bottom of the second Riverside put together a pair of RBI singles also coming from Colton Munger and Keller and regained the lead at 4-2. The Thunder got back within one in the top of the third after back to back errors led off the inning by Riverside and Nemaha Central scored on the second one, making it 4-3. The scoring would come to a standstill until the top of the six as Nemaha Central switched pitchers from Rottinghaus to Sudbeck and Neil shutdown the Cyclones defense giving up one base runner in the final four innings of the game, while Cade Wendt who started for Riverside worked around a pair of runners in the fourth and fifth.

In the top of the sixth things fell apart for Riverside and the Thunder took advantage as six errors in the inning, sprinkled with a few hits and a three-run homer by Andrew Oller resulted in 11 runs for Nemaha Central and after blanking the Cyclones in the bottom of the sixth, earning the 14-4 win.

Sudbeck earned the win in relief going four innings, surrendering no runs on one-hit, while striking out five, while offensively Oller finished 2-4 with four RBI, a run scored and a homer. Hasenkamp notched a 2-4 game with an RBI, while every Thunder batter was on the base pads at least once and nine of the ten guys who had an at bat scored a run.

For Riverside, Quenton Munger posted a 2-3 game with two runs scored, while Colton Munger was 2-2 with an RBI and was hit by a pitch and Keller was 1-2 with an RBI and walk. Cade Wendt took the loss pitching five innings but was strong in his performance giving up eight hits, walking two and hit a batter; he did surrender 10 runs but many were unearned via nine errors by Riverside.

The wins push Nemaha Central to 3-5 on the season, while Riverside falls to 0-6 on the year. The Thunder take to the diamond again on Monday as they host Jeff West, while takes on Falls City (NE) on Friday on the road.
