Perry Lecompton, Pleasant Ridge & Immaculata Compete at Red Bud Track Classic

Three Northeast Kansas area teams continued their track and field seasons on Friday at the Red Bud Classic in Wellsville against several other area teams.

Leading the way for the area was the Perry Lecompton Kaws out of the Big Seven League as the Kaw boys took sixth place out of 14 teams, while the lady Kaws took eighth out of 14 teams. The Pleasant Ridge Rams also competed on the day and both the girls and boys each place 11th as a team, while the Immaculata girls finished 14th. The Baldwin boys and Paola girls both won the meet.

Four first place finishes led the area performances as they all came by Perry Lecompton with three coming in the boy’s competition. Cody Williams sprinted to the win in the 400 meter dash with at time of 52.11, while Austin Kurtz tossed his way to the win in the javelin behind a throw of 172'02 and the Kaws boys 4x400 meter relay team posted a time of 3:30.21 to claim the gold. Abbi Folks picked up the other first place finish, as she won the triple jump with a leap of 33'11 and added a fourth place finish in the long jump to her day, also.

Six more Top five finishes were earned by Perry Lecompton on the day at Wellsville as Cole Kellum took second in the boy’s 400 meter dash, while Lexia Jamison finished third in the girls 800 meter run. Taylor Ball finished fifth in the girls shot put, while Torin VanNest also took fifth in the boy’s 300 meter hurdles and Max Kuenzi placed fifth in the boy’s pole vault. The Kaws boy’s 4x100 meter relay team also registered a fifth place showing.

Three bronze medals lead Pleasant Ridge as Grace McKinney took third in the girl’s 200 meter dash, Matt Smith place third in the boy’s triple jump and Gabe Younger grabbed third place in the boys 800 meter run. McKinney and Smith each added a fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash to their days, while Luke Oatney and Susan Redieck each placed fourth in the boys 1600 meter run and girls javelin, respectively. The Rams boy’s 4x100 meter relay also picked up a fourth place finish, while the girls 4x100 team placed fifth on the day.

Immaculata was led by a sixth place performance from Jordan Sachse and that came in the triple jump at the Red Bud Classic in Wellsville.

The track season continues for all three teams next Thursday with their League meets as Perry Lecompton will compete at the Big Seven League meet and both Pleasant Ridge and Immaculata at the Northeast Kansas League meet.
