Vermillion Team & Lucas Helget of Onaga Take Top Spots at TVL Boys Golf Competition

A windy and chilly Monday didn't provide the greatest conditions for golf action but the Twin Valley League boy’s golf competition took place at the Onaga Cool Springs golf course and despite the weather several solid performances were put together.

Vermillion (Centralia/Frankfort) put together the top team showing out of the three TVL teams fielding a full team as they registered a team score of 396, finishing only three-strokes ahead of Onaga who notched a team score of 399. Washington County Tigers also fielded a team and scored a team score of 465 on the day.

Individually on the day the best round came at the hands of Onaga Buffalo, Lucas Helget as he carded an 82 to finish at least five-strokes ahead of everyone. His teammate Tyler Fleming finished third on the day after a round of 89, while Jace Fischer shot a 112 to finish 11th. Ben Kufahl and Trenton Ross posted rounds 116 and 123 for the Buffalos on the day.

The winning team on the day, Vermillion had four Top 10 finishers on the day with Ryan Vernon leading the charge taking second place with an 87, while Jason Gore finished fourth, Danny Mueting seventh and Sean Rempe tenth after carding rounds of 96, 104 and 109, respectively. Marshall Ruetti and Chase Boyce both also were in action for Vermillion notching rounds of 123 and 132.

Linn Bulldog, Andrew Meyer picked up a fifth place finish after posting a round of 100, while his teammates Kalen Richardson and Jennah Ohlde also competed on the day with rounds of 138 and 170.

Washington County was led by Evan Oullette and Hunter Johnson who placed sixth and ninth on the day with rounds of 104 and 106. Johnson highlighted the day with a hole-in-one on Hole five a par three, using an eight-iron from 140 yards out. Matt Small, Sidney Applegarth and Scott Romeiser all also were in action for the Tigers scoring rounds of 113, 142 and 152.

Valley Heights Mustangs were led by the performance of Payton Manley who took eighth place at League after a 105. Bryan Yungeberg and Quentin Blaske both were also competing for Valley Heights on the day and carded rounds of 124 and 147, respectively.

Hanover Wildcats had three competitors in action on the day as William Moore, Aaron Hendrickson and Brandon Gerleve posted rounds of 167, 167 and 173.

The golf season continues next week for the Twin Valley League teams as they compete in Regionals on Monday, May 18th.
