Holton Wins Big Seven League Boys Golf Title

The Big Seven League title was up for grabs on Wednesday in boys golf and the Holton Wildcats pounced on the honors bringing home the trophy by 10-strokes at Village Greens golf course.

Holton on the day posted a team score 341 to claim the Big Seven League championship, while Nemaha Central with a team score of 351 finished second and Jeff West finished third with a team mark of 363. Sabetha, Perry Lecompton and Hiawatha rounded out the team finishes placing fourth, fifth and sixth with team scores of 367, 412 and 438.

Leading the charge for the Holton Wildcats was Braden Sides who put together the best individual round on the day, shooting a 75 to win by three-strokes and added a hole-in-one on hole five at Village Greens to his day. Parker Sides joined Braden with a Top 10 finish after posting a round of 86 to finish sixth, while rounds of 89 and 91 finished out the Wildcats four-man team score and A.J. Haussler and Hayden May carded those rounds, respectively. Garett Beecher and Nils Bergsten also were in action for Holton posting rounds of 92 and 97 each.

For Nemaha Central it was Zach Bradley leading the way scoring the only other round under 80, outside of Braden Sides, as Bradley carded a 78 to finish second. Blake Mohney scored an 88 to place seventh on the day, while rounds of 92 and 93 by Dylan Enneking and Tristan Allen finished out the Thunder team score of 351. Michael Love also teed it up for Nemaha Central carding a 113 at Village Greens.

Third place team the Jeff West Tigers had a pair of Top 10 finishers on the day led them as Connor Mickens and Cooper Mickens each posted a round of 88 to place eighth and ninth. Preston Stanley and Collin Ellis scored rounds of 92 and 95 for the Tigers to cap off their team score of 363. Hunter Overstreet and Zachary Murdock also brought out the clubs for Jeff West notching rounds of 105 and 111, respectively.

Connor Epple led Sabetha on the day with an 86 to finish fifth individually, while rounds of 91, 95 and 95 finished out the Bluejays team score for the day as Reese Lierz, Noah Garber and Jonah Montgomery tallied those rounds. Corbin Halls and Brendan Rokey scored rounds of 108 and 113 for Sabetha also at the League meet.

Perry Lecompton's, Jacob Morgison carded the third best round on the day scoring an 81 to take third. The rest of the Kaws all scored rounds of 100, as Alex Haynes shot a 104, Brett Koehler notched a 112, Corey Shackelford posted a 115, Cooper Busey scored a 119 and Dylan Potter finished with a 125 score.

The ACCHS Tigers only had a pair of golfers on the day thus not fielding a team but both individuals finished in the Top 10 as Sam Sowers and Pat Sullivan posted rounds of 86 and 88 to finish fourth and tenth, respectively.

Hiawatha was led by Taylor Jacobson who shot a 94, while Josh Sandgrait shot a 100, Tarrin Miller a 121 and Tom Nolte a 125 for the Red Hawks team score. Keenan Hinton and Zach Perry also were in competition for Hiawatha scoring rounds of 126 and 145.

The Big Seven League teams and golfers now turn their attention to Regional action coming up on Monday, May 18th.
