Seneca traveled to Hiawatha on Friday as both teams took on each other in a Northeast Kansas League double header and it was Seneca behind the production of 28 runs coming away with a pair of victories, 11-2 in six innings and 16-0 in four innings.

The night started in game one with Hiawatha taking the early lead as Dakota Bayles led the bottom of the first off with a double and came around to score on a RBI groundout by Taylor Jacobsen. Seneca didn't waste much time after that to get on the board as they plated three runs on three Hiawatha errors and a hit in the top of the second. The runs continued for Seneca as they posted a four spot in the third with a two RBI single by Dustin Rottinghaus highlighting the inning to give them the 7-1 lead. Hiawatha got a run back in the bottom of the third after Dakota Bayles scored on a passed ball after leading the inning off with a triple. But Seneca would not stop adding to their lead plating a run in the fourth and fifth innings and two more in the sixth to lead 11-2 and then would secure the win.

Devin Henry led Seneca on the mound pitching all six innings giving up two runs on six hits, a walk and struck out nine while adding a 1-3 offensive day with a run scored and walk to earn McDonald's "Player of the Game" honors on Kanzaland radio. Rottinghaus led the Seneca offense with a 3-3 performance with two runs scored and three RBI.

Hiawatha in the loss was led by Bayles who finished 3-3 with a double, triple and two runs scored, notching half the teams hits in the contest, while Hiawatha hurt themselves with seven errors in the matchup. Marshall Swearingen took the loss on the mound after starting the game and going three innings.

In game two Seneca took advantage of their opportunities again and Hiawatha had eight errors, while Seneca out-hit them 13-2 to earn the 16-0 win. Seneca started the scoring in the second plating two runs, then busted the game open in the third with a 10-run inning using eight hits, two walks and two errors to score those 10 runs in the top of the third, before adding four more in the fourth to go on for the 16-0 win.

Alex Rottinghaus in four innings limited Hiawatha to 2 hits and a walk not surrendering any runs, while striking out eight for the win, while six Seneca players had a multi-hit game including Alex. Tim Nolte, Alex Rottinghaus, Henry and Justice McKernan all finished with 2-3 games with at least two runs scored each, while Dalton Hiltbrand was 2-4 and Luke Haverkamp posted a 2-2 game with three runs scored and a walk. Bayles and Shawn Green had the lone hits of the contest for Hiawatha in game two.

The pair of wins pushes Seneca to a 9-2 overall record on the season and 6-2 in League play, while Hiawatha with the losses falls to 3-8 on the year and 2-4 in League action. Both teams will be back in action on Sunday against each other again this time in Seneca for a double header starting at 4:00pm.
