In the only Northeast Kansas League legion baseball action on Friday night Hiawatha hosted Sabetha and the two teams would split the double header, as Sabetha picked up the 10-2 game one win, while Hiawatha notched a 4-3 game two win.

Game one despite finishing was as a 10-2 win for Sabetha was close through a good portion of the game. Both teams finished with only five hits each and both had a few errors, but the difference in the matchup proved to be the 11 walks drawn by Sabetha. Sabetha struck first in the contest with a run in the top of the first inning, but Hiawatha tied the game in the third at 1-1. The lead quickly went back to Sabetha as they plated two in the fourth, three more in the fifth and finished things off with four runs in the seventh.

Preston Bruning, Nate Niehues, Blake Popkess, Dustin Gurber and Seth Burdick each registered a hit for Sabetha while Popkess drew three walks as did Tyler Ulrich. It was Jake Meyer on the mound once again being solid for Sabetha this season going seven innings giving up two runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out four. For Hiawatha Dakota Bayles led the team in the loss going 2-4 with a triple and two runs scored.

Game two proved to be a tighter ballgame all the way down to the wire with Hiawatha holding on to the lead for the 4-3 win.

Hiawatha took the early lead scoring a run in the bottom of the first, but Sabetha tied the game in the fourth and each team added a tally in the fifth making it a 2-2 contest. In the bottom of the sixth it was a one-out single by Cameron Smith, followed by a triple by Marhsall Swearingen that gave the lead back to Hiawatha and Swearingen made it a two-run lead scoring on a balk, meaning Hiawatha was up 4-2 going into the top of the seventh. Sabetha tired their best to mount the comeback as Alec Kirwan laced a double followed by a Kaid Allen single and a fielder's choice after that would plate a run for Sabetha making it 4-3 and Hiawatha would close the door with Dakota Bayles earning the save.

Six guys for Hiawatha each finished with a hit as Swearingen had a triple, Bayles a double and Brendan Steele, Parker Hasenkamp, Shawn Green and Smith each had a hit, also. Hasenkamp earned the win on the mound going five innings, while Kirwan took the loss for Sabetha pitching six solid frames. Burdick and Allen led Sabetha's offense in the loss going 2-2 and 2-4, respectively.

With the split Sabetha moved to 8-24 overall and 5-13 in the League this season, while Hiawatha sits at 6-13 overall and 5-9 in the League.
