2015 Kanzaland American Legion Baseball NEKL All-League Team

Another season is in the books for Northeast Kansas League legion baseball and the 2015 season saw plenty of good match ups between League teams and a pair of teams make the State tournaments. With the season in the books the 2015 Kanzaland American Legion All-League honors have been handed out for the NEKL.

Doniphan County finished the season 29-5 on the year making the AA State tournament in Colby where they went 1-2 in action, while repeating as the NEKL tournament champions, winning their own tournament crown and also winning the Zone 1 AA tournament title this year. Helping spear head the great performance for Doniphan County all year was the performance of Nathan Gaarder who finished the year 10-0 on the mound and was in the top three of several offensive categories for Doniphan County earning him Co-MVP honors this year, which is the third year Gaarder has earned All-League honors. Four of his teammates also got the nod for All-League honors as last year's MVP, Phoenix Keller earned honors at first base (third year All-League), Jeffrey Watts at pitcher (second year All-League), Reid Greaser at catcher and Tucker Morris in the out field.

Seneca finished the year with a 27-7 overall mark and claimed the regular season NEKL title for the fourth time in the last six years. Helping lead the charge on the diamond was the play of Dustin Rottinghaus who earned Co-MVP honors this year after getting it down both on the mound and with the bat all season; earning Rottinghaus All-League honors for the second time in legion baseball. Five other Seneca players earned All-League honors this year, too as Cody Rottinghaus earned honors at pitcher (second year All-League), Dalton Hiltbrand at third base and Andrew Oller and Devin Henry both at utility.

Oskaloosa, Atchison, Hiawatha and Sabetha all had a pair of players earn Kanzaland American Legion NEKL All-League honors this year. For Oskaloosa it marked their first year in the NEKL and they finished the season 18-19 overall qualifying for the AAA State tournament in McPherson after finishing runner-up in their Zone, while winning the Alma regular season tournament. Bryce Stottlemire and Dalton VanHoutan earned All-League honors in Oskaloosa's first year in the League getting the nod at pitcher and utility, respectively.

Atchison who finished the year 11-12 and third in the NEKL had both Chase Behler and Harry Trotter earn All-League honors at out field and second base. While, Taylor Jacobsen and Dakota Bayles both got the nod for All-League honors for Hiawatha at utility and shortstop, respectively; for Bayles it's his fourth time being named All-League in legion baseball and for Jacobsen his second.

Both Blake Popkess and Jake Meyer earned All-League honors for Sabetha earning the honors at out field and pitcher, respectively after Sabetha finished 10-28 on the year.

Frankfort who finished the season 4-15 had one player named to the All-League squad and that is Cody Huerter who earned the honors at utility.

2015 Northeast Kansas League American Legion Baseball Notes:

*Seneca won the NEKL regular season title (18-4 league record) (won the regular season title for the fourth time in the last six years)
*Doniphan County repeated at NEKL tournament champions (won tournament for fifth time in team history)
*Oskaloosa won the Alma Tournament (went 3-0 in tournament with wins over Silver Lake, Burlington (CO) & Alma)
*Doniphan County won their home Doniphan County tournament (Doniphan County junior legion won the junior legion tournament)
*Oskaloosa finished as runner-up in AAA Zone at Atchison at qualify for AAA State Tournament
*Doniphan Coounty won AA Zone 1 at Sabetha to qualify for AA State Tournament (seventh trip to State in team history)
*Oskaloosa competed at AAA State tournament finished 0-2 at State
*Doniphan County competed AA State tournament finished 1-2 at State
