One Area School & 14 Wrestlers Ranked in Latest KWCA Rankings - Jan. 19th

The high school wrestling season continues and strong performances continually are being showcased by area grapplers from Northeast Kansas and this week in the latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association rankings 14 area wrestlers and one team are in the rankings. 

In Class 4A the Holton Wildcats continue to have three wrestlers in the rankings at 138lbs, 145lbs and 152lbs. The Wildcats are coming off of a 13th place finish as a team at the Newton Tournament of Champions last Saturday and Tyler Price had one of the team’s best performances finishing second place at 152lbs and checks in at second in the latest 4A polls at 152lbs. Justin Rieschick (145lbs) also earned a second place finish at the Newton Tournament and he remains ranked at 145lbs in 4A coming in at third in the Top six of his weight class. Justin Pool also remains ranked and is fifth in the latest polls in 4A at 138lbs and he went 1-2 in his latest action at the Newton Tournament. 

Class 3-2-1A continues to house many area wrestlers in the rankings and one area team that has been in the Top 10 as a team a good portion of the season. The Marysville Bulldogs after finishing second at their home Jayhusker Invitational last Saturday are ranked fifth in the latest 3-2-1A KWCA rankings as a team. Leading the charge for the Bulldogs is Chris Deters (132lbs) who ranks first in his weight class and won his class at the Jayhusker Invitational back on Saturday. Another guy who finished first for Marysville at their home Invitational was Jacob Stryker who won the 160lbs title at the Jayhusker Invitational and is ranked third in the latest 3-2-1A polls at 160lbs. Both Jacob Mintzmyer (170lbs) and Nick Ackerman (182lbs) are each ranked sixth at their respectively weight classes in the latest polls. Mintzmyer took second at 170lbs at the Jayhusker Invitational, while Ackerman placed third at 182lbs. 

Doniphan West Mustangs have Garret Dunlap (160lbs) and Kody Collins (182lbs) continue to remain ranked in the 3-2-1A polls coming in at fourth and fifth, respectively in their weight classes. Dunlap took third recently at the Jayhusker Invitational in Marysville last Saturday, while Collins placed second at that tournament in his weight class. 

ACCHS, Riverside, Pleasant Ridge, Sabetha and Onaga all have a grappler in the latest 3-2-1A KWCA rankings. For the ACCHS Tigers, Hunter Ostertag continues to be ranked as he as all season this time coming in at second at 132lbs, having competed at the Bobcat Classic at Basehor-Linwood most recently. While fellow Big Seven League wrestlers Scott Resler (138lbs) of Riverside and Seth Harrell (126lbs) of Sabetha rank fourth and sixth in their respective weight classes. Harrell took fourth at the Jayhusker Invitational last Saturday, while Resler competed most recently at the West Platte Triangular for the Cyclones. 

Pleasant Ridge Ram, Dustin Graham ranks fourth in the latest 3-2-1A polls at 195lbs and Onaga Buffalo, Quentin Lara comes in at fifth in the rankings at 220lbs. Graham most recently competed at the St. Mary's Invitational, while Lara took second at the Jayhusker Invitational recently on last Saturday.
