Marysville Wrestles to Top Spot at Phillipsburg Invitational

The strong season for the Marysville Bulldogs wrestling squad continued on Saturday as the brought home the top hardware at the Panther Classic in Phillipsburg. 

Behind 160.5 total points the Bulldogs claimed first place by 10 points over Norton to win the team title at the Panther Classic. Spear heading the top performances for Marysville was a trio of wrestlers taking first in their weight classes on the day. 

Chris Deters (132lbs), Jacob Stryker (160lbs) and Jacob Mintzmyer (170lbs) all put together unbeaten days on the mats to bring home first place in their weight classes for the Bulldogs. Deters posted a 3-0 record with a pair of pinfall wins in 1:09 and 1:17, getting him into the Championship bout where he picked up a major decision 12-2 victory to claim the 132lbs title. For Stryker it was also a 3-0 day on the mats winning by pinfall in 1:17, by technical fall 19-4 and then in the Championship match taking the win by a tight 3-2 decision at 160lbs. While, Mintzmyer went 4-0 at the Panther Classic at 170lbs registering all his wins via pinfall in 42 seconds, 2:37, 3:05 and 5:29 in the Championship bout. 

Three more Bulldogs brought home silver medals taking second place as Jakob Snellings (106lbs), Skylar Widmer (126lbs) and Nick Ackerman (182lbs). Snellings posted a 3-1 record on the day at 106lbs with all three wins by decision, while Widmer at 126lbs finished 2-1 in action with a pinfall and major decision win. Ackerman at 182lbs was 2-1 in action for the Bulldogs with a pinfall and decision win and his loss came in a tight decision. 

Tristin Detimore picked up third place for Marysville at 220lbs posting a 2-1 record on the day, while Caleb Vogelsberg (195lbs) and Chance Hight (113lbs) grabbed a fourth place finishes. Vogelsberg at 195lbs went 2-2 on the mats to finish fourth and Hight also posted a 2-2 record on the day finishing fourth at 113lbs.

Ethan Crownover (120lbs), Derek Roever (138lbs), Gabe Capp (145lbs), Matt Lindhorst (152lbs) and Seth Mooradian (285lbs) all also competed for Marysville at the Panther Classic. 

Marysville will wrap up the regular season on that mats on Thursday, February 11th when they compete at the ACCHS Double Dual.
