Vermillion boy's golf team has been teeing off on the competition this season and that trend continued on Monday as they won another tournament, claiming the Onaga Invitational title after competing with several fellow Twin Valley League teams.
Vermillion field a pair of four-man teams on the day and the Vermillion number one squad carded a 358 to finish 28-strokes ahead of second place. The Onaga Buffaloes took second place as a team with a team score of 386, while Washington County behind a team score of 402 took third and the second team for Vermillion took home fourth after a team score of 445. Linn and Valley Heights also had competitors on the day but did not field an entire four-man team.
On the way to first place as a team Vermillion had their four golfers that accounted for the top team score all finish individually in the Top 10. Ryan Vernon and Otto Nermo once again paced Vermillion finishing second and third, respectively after carding rounds of 84 and 88. Austin Hardwick and Josh Tynon also grabbed Top 10 showings placing sixth and ninth with rounds of 91 and 95.
The top spot individually went to Tyler Fleming of Onaga who continues to have a strong golf season as he took first place by two-strokes with a round of 82. His teammate Jace Fischer finished seventh on the day with a 93.
The Washington County Tiger duo of Hunter Johnson and Evan Ouellete after rounds of 88 and 90, respectively earned Top five finishes, taking fourth and fifth.
Linn also had two golfers in the Top 10 as Andrew Meyer and Chase McGatlin posted rounds of 93 and 97 to finish eighth and tenth.
