Wednesday night was a full slate of Northeast Kansas League legion baseball action with all four double headers between the League teams counting towards the League standings. The night was filled with some close games and a few routes. Sabetha swept Corning at home, while Atchison and Doniphan County picked up road sweeps over Oskaloosa and Leavenworth and Seneca and Silver Lake split their double header on the night. 
 
Sabetha Streaks Win Streak to Seven-Straight With Sweep of Corning
 
Things have been clicking for Sabetha Post 126 legion baseball as of late and that trend continued on Wednesday night at Somerset park with a sweep of Corning in a pair of five inning games winning 8-0 and 9-1. 
 
Game one it was the pitching performance of Trevor Kramer that pushed Sabetha to the win as the offense backed him up in the 8-0 win. Kramer tossed a five inning no-hitter for the win, striking out six and only had four base runners against him, three by error and the other via a walk. Kramer's pitching performance earned him McDonald's "Player of the Game" honors on KNZA radio. The offense backed up Kramer's pitching as Sabetha plated three runs in the second inning to take the lead with a two RBI single by Brandon Brownlee highlighting the inning. Two more runs were added in the fourth and three in the fifth to finish the game as a two RBI single by Brownlee scored the final two runs of the contest. 
 
Brownlee finished 2-4 with four RBI's to lead Sabetha offensively, while Riley Hermann was 2-2 with an RBI and walk and Dustin Gruber finished 2-2 with three runs scored and a walk. Corning had only four baserunners in the game with three reaching by error, while Jackson Glessner took the loss on the mound going four innings. 
 
In game two Sabetha snagged the early lead behind a solo homer by Kaid Allen in the second inning, but Corning's offense opened up a bit and they tied the game in the third on three hits including an RBI single by Dustin Talley. Momentum swung back to Sabetha with a three run bottom of the third as Sabetha tallied three runs on two walks, a hit batter and two hits and then finished the game in the fifth with four runs to win 9-1. Four walks and three hits in the fifth lead to the four runs with a two RBI single by Brayden Becker highlighting the inning. 
 
Josh Hasenkamp led Corning in the loss going 2-3, while Brendan Melvin, Peyton Deters and Talley each had a hit. Allen led Sabetha going 2-3 with a home run and walk, while Joe Gruber was 1-2 with two RBI's, a walk and run scored and Becker was 1-2 with a walk and RBI. 
 
The pair of wins pushes Sabetha to 10-3 overall and 4-2 in League, while pushing their win streak to seven, while Corning fell to 0-6 on the season and 0-6 in League play. Both teams are in action again on Friday at the Marysville Classic as Sabetha plays Rock Creek in the first round and Corning takes on Concordia. 
 
Seneca & Silver Lake Split Pair of Tight Ballgames
 
It proved to be some of the most highly contested League games of the season thus far when Seneca traveled to Silver Lake on Wednesday for a League double header. The two teams put together a pair of highly competitive contests splitting the two games with Seneca taking game one 4-2 and Silver Lake winning game two 12-7. 
 
Silver Lake took the early lead in game one on a Reid Walker RBI single in the second, but Seneca tied the contest with a Cody Rottinghaus RBI single in the fourth. Then in the fifth inning with three hits, a walk and error Seneca plated three runs to take the lead and go on to secure the 4-2 win. The strong pitching of Dylan Schraad led Seneca as he surrendered on two runs on nine hits with five strikeouts in seven innings to earn the win, while Neil Sudbeck led the offense going 2-3 with a double. In the loss Garrett Huske pitched well for Silver Lake going the distance giving up four runs on nine hits and one walk, while striking out nine. Drake McMillian, Jake Lindstorm and Tyler Layton each had two hits in the loss for Silver Lake. 
 
Game two saw Seneca jump on the early lead scoring two in the top of the first, but Silver Lake responded to score one run in the first, four in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth, all while Seneca only scored three runs in the fourth during that span. The early scoring pushed Silver Lake to the 12-7 win and the double header split. Lindstrom had a pair of hits for Silver Lake, while Alex Whitehead had four RBI's, Tyler Koelzer recorded three RBI's and McMillian drew three walks. Walker and Frick combined for the win on the mound for Oskaloosa. Seneca was led by Tristan Allen in the loss has he had three hits, while Dalton Hiltibrand had two hits. 
 
The split moved Silver Lake to 7-1 on the season and 5-1 in League play, while Seneca moved to 5-3 on the season and 3-1 in League action. Both teams will be in action again on Sunday as Silver Lake hosts Doniphan County and Seneca travels to Leavenworth. 
 
Doniphan County Remains Unbeaten With Road Sweep of Oskaloosa
 
Doniphan County has started the legion baseball season really strong and that continued on Wednesday on the road with a sweep of Oskaloosa in League action claiming 8-1 and 30-5 (four innings) victories. 
 
Game one Doniphan County had Brody Winder on the mound earning the win by pitching five innings, while Nathan Gaarder finished the contest tossing the final two frames in the 8-1 win over Oskaloosa. Leading the Doniphan County offense was Chris Winkel and Wil Smith has Winkel tallied three hits with three runs scored and Smith had a pair of hits and three RBI's. Oskaloosa in the loss was highlighted by a solo home run from Mitch Sullivan. 
 
It was all offense for Doniphan County in game two and in a big way cruising to a 30-5 four inning route of Oskaloosa for the double header sweep. Leading the offensive barrage for Doniphan County was Winkel who was 4-5 with four runs scored and four RBI's, while Smith had three hits and three RBI's and Tucker Morris hit two home runs. On the mound Cade Wendt pitched four solid innings to pick up the win. Oskaloosa had an early two-run homer by Dalton Vanhoutan in the contest, while plating three more runs in the fourth on two walks, a hit batter and one hit. 
 
With the road double header sweep Doniphan County remains unbeaten moving to 8-0 on the season and 6-0 in League action, while Oskaloosa fell to 2-6 and 2-4 in League play. Doniphan County is back on the field Thursday night at Falls City for a non-league showdown, while Oskaloosa travels to Ottawa on Friday for a non-league twin bill. 
 
Atchison Sweeps Leavenworth On the Road in League Action
 
It was a tale of two games on Wednesday in Leavenworth between Atchison and Leavenworth but the outcome was the same in each game a win for Atchison. Game one was a tight ballgame decided in the seventh as Atchison won 8-5, while game two was all Atchison as they picked up the 18-1 four inning win. 
 
Atchison took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Leavenworth cut that in half after two innings only to see it go to a 3-1 lead going into the fourth. In the fourth Leavenworth got four runs and snagged the lead at 5-3 but Atchison responded with two runs in the sixth to send the game into the seventh tied at 5-5. In the top of the seventh Atchison plated three and ultimately used that to secure the game one win 8-5. 
 
Game two was all Atchison from the early start of the game as they scored six in the in the first, added four in the second and eight more in the third and cruised past Leavenworth for the 18-1 win. 
 
The wins push Atchison to 4-4 on the season and 4-4 in League play, while Leavenworth remains in search of their first win of the season sitting at 0-10 and 0-6 in League action. Leavenworth is back in action Thursday at home against McLouth in a non-league double header, while Atchison will host Emporia on Saturday in a non-league twin bill.
