Doniphan County Offense Continues to Roll as Team Rolls Past Oskaloosa in Double Header

From top to bottom of the lineup Doniphan County has had offensive production from everyone this season and that trend continued to on Tuesday as they hosted Oskaloosa and picked up a pair of five inning wins, 9-1 and 11-3.

Game one saw Oskaloosa snag the lead early sending seven to the plate in the first inning and taking a 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single by Triston Hopkins, but Doniphan County limited the damage in the first as Oskaloosa left the bases loaded. In the bottom of the first Doniphan County responded to start the frame with a lead-off triple by Reid Greaser and an infield single by Chris Winkel made it a 1-1 ballgame. After facing seven in the first inning, Wyatt Huss settled in on the mound for Doniphan County giving up just two base runners over the next four innings and earning the five inning win giving up just one run on three hits, a walk and two hit batters with two strikeouts and was 1-1 at the plate with an RBI and run scored to earn McDonald's "Player of the Game". Partnered with the pitching of Huss the offense of Doniphan County continued their strong year plating a run in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth to earn the 9-1 win. Greaser led the Doniphan County offense with a 3-3 performance with a triple, double and RBI, while Wil Smith was 2-2 with a home run and walk and Tucker Morris finished 2-3 with a double and two RBI's.

Just like game one Oskaloosa jumped to the early lead against Doniphan County scoring three runs in the first inning on two hits, two errors and a walk with a RBI double by Dalton VanHoutan highlighting the inning. But Doniphan County again responded and got on the board themselves in the bottom of the first with five runs on five hits and an error with a two RBI double by Wil Smith leading the charge. Doniphan County scored at least one more run over the next four innings, three in the second and one in the third, fourth and fifth innings for the 11-3 win as Nathan Gaarder ended the game with an RBI single in the fifth. Doniphan County out-hit Oskaloosa 13-4 in the contest with two hits games for Greaser, Winkel, Gaarder, Morris and Winder. Winkel had three RBI's with two doubles and Morris hit fourth home run of the season. Cade Wendt was solid on the mound going five innings for the win giving up three runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Along with VanHoutan's double, Easton Weems, Hunter Reed and Cooper Thurston each had a hit for Oskaloosa in the loss.

The sweep keeps Doniphan County unbeaten moving to 13-0 on the season and 10-0 in League action, while Oskaloosa falls to 2-10 and 2-6 in League play. Oskaloosa hits the field again Wednesday as they host Leavenworth, while Doniphan County takes on Falls City on Thursday at home in the Doniphan County Tournament.

Seneca Blanks Corning for Double Header Sweep

Seneca played host to Corning for a NEKL double header and stymied the Corning offense pushing them to a pair of victories, 13-0 in four innings and 8-0 in six innings.

Behind the pitching of Dylan Schraad Seneca cruised to the game one win on the night 13-0 in four innings as Schraad tossed four innings of no-hit ball to earn the win giving up just three walks, while striking out six. Offensively Seneca used a 12-hit attack to produce 13 runs with nine runs in the bottom of the third with eight hits, a walk and two errors in that inning alone. Five guys tallied a two-hit game for Seneca as Tristan Allen, Cody Rottinghaus, Kurtis Niehues, Austin Gerety and Dylan Schraad each registered a multi-hit game. Rottinghaus blasted a home run and had two RBI's.

Game two was tight early on as Seneca plated a run in the first inning but it remained 1-0 until Seneca added to their scoring in the bottom of the fourth with three runs and two runs in the fifth and sixth innings to win 8-0 in six. Dylan Schraad continued to pitch for Seneca on the night going four and two-thirds for the win in game two, while Dalton Hiltibrand finished the game on the mound. Allen and Lucas Schraad led the Seneca offense with two hits each, including a double for Lucas, while Braden Deters in the loss led the Corning offense with two of the teams five hits. Jackson Glessner took the loss on the mound for Corning going into the sixth inning giving up eight runs on eight hits and six walks, striking out seven.

The twinbill sweep for Seneca improved them to 9-3 on the season and 7-1 in League action, while Corning fell to 1-10 on the season and 0-8 in League play. Seneca travels to Sabetha for a League double header on Thursday (6:00pm game to be broadcasted on 103.9 KNZA) and Corning will be in action next on Sunday as they will host Leavenworth.

Sabetha Uses Big Fifth Innings to Sweep Silver Lake In League Double Header

Despite holding leads midway through both games Silver Lake could not hold on for the win each time as Sabetha used a big fifth inning in each contest to secure a pair of wins, 11-6 and 9-5.

Silver Lake snatched a 4-0 lead after just an inning and half against Sabetha in game one, but Sabetha chipped at the lead with two runs in the second using an RBI triple from Brayden Becker help score the runs. Things fully shifted to Sabetha's favor in the sixth when a six spot was posted on the board to gain the led 10-6 and Sabetha added one more run to grab the 11-6 win. A Brandon Brownlee two-run single and Preston Brunning RBI single highlighted the five run sixth for Sabetha, as Becker led the offense for Sabetha in the win with two triples, two runs scored and three RBI's. Bryce Kramer tossed the complete game to earn the win on the mound.

Game two saw Silver Lake hold a 4-1 lead after two and half innings, but Sabetha tied the game in the bottom of the third with a Kaid Allen sacrifice fly, groundout and wild pitch. Silver Lake regained the lead on a wild pitch in the fourth, but when the fifth inning rolled around Sabetha found a groove again scoring five runs on four hits, a walk and pair errors and used that big inning to earn the sweep with a 9-5 win. Dustin Gruber earned the win on the mound going six and two-thirds, while Joe Gruber picked up the save striking out the final batter with the bases loaded.

Sabetha with the wins have won 11 of the last 12 games and improved to 14-4 on the season and 6-2 in League play, while Silver Lake fell to 7-5 on the season and 5-5 in League action.
