Marysville Wins & Holton Takes Second at Clay Center Wrestling Invite

A pair of area wrestling squads took to the mats at Clay Center on Saturday and dominated the competition finishing one and two in the team standings out of 11 total schools, as Marysville won their second tournament of the year and Holton took second. 

Marysville dominated the day on the mats registering a total of 203.5 points to win the tournament by 106 points, while all 13 of their wrestler finished fourth place or better on the day including five first place finishers and four second place finishers. Ethan Crownover (126lbs), Jakob Snellings (106lbs), Jacob Stryker (182lbs), Jacob Mintzmyer (170lbs) and Nick Ackerman (195lbs) all posted unbeaten days on the mat to take first place in their weight class. Crownover notched a 5-0 day at 126lbs winning by pinfall four times in :46, 1:50, 1:39 and 1:15 and picked up his other win by injury. For Mintzmyer it was a 4-0 day at 170lbs with two pinfall wins in :58 and 1:15, along with major decision wins in 9-1 and 13-3, while Stryker recorded a 4-0 day at 182lbs with four pinfall wins in 2:19, 1:26, 2:11 and 1:36. Snellings also recorded a 4-0 day on the mats winning by pin twice (2:58 and 1:10) and also by decision twice (6-4 and 7-2). Ackerman also took first place going 2-0 at 195lbs with a foriet win and a 3-1 decision victory. 

Second place finishes were earned by Joey Bockin (113lbs), Jonny Crome (120lbs), Caleb Vogelsberg (220lbs) and Seth Mooradian (285lbs) for the Marysville Bulldogs. Mooradian posted a 4-1 day on the mats in the heavyweight division notching a 6-3 decision win and three pinfall victories in :12, 1:18 and 5:32. Bockin, Crome and Vogelsberg all recorded 3-1 records on the day as Bockin at 113lbs had three pinfall wins (:35, 1:38 and 4:56), while Crome won via 6-1 and 7-4 decision and by pinfall (1:30) and Vogelsberg notched 3-2 and 2-1 decisions, along with a pinfall win (1:34). 

The Marysville trio of Gabe Capp (138lbs), Derek Roever (145lbs) and Storm Slupianek (152lbs) all took third place posting 3-1, 3-1 and 3-2 records, respectively. Matt Lindhorst at 160lbs earned a fourth place finish with a 3-2 day on the mats for the Bulldogs. 

The Holton Wildcats edged out the host of the tournament Clay Center by four points for second place as a team on the day and were led by a pair of individual champs on the day. Kyler Tannahill at 285lbs recorded a 5-0 day on the mats recording five pinfall wins in 1:02, :41, :39, 3:06 and 1:23, while Kolby Roush at 120lbs went 4-0 to take first place with four wins via pinfall in :54, :30, 5:34 and 1:11. Tyler Price earned second place at 170lbs going 3-1 with a pair wins by pin (:58 and 2:29) and a victory by 7-1 decision. Third place finishes were notched by Taygen Fletcher (113lbs) and Tel Wittmer (220lbs) who each went 3-1, while Cameron Smith (106lbs) took fourth place. 

The wrestling season continues for Marysville and Holton both continue their years on Thursday, December 15th in a dual action as the Bulldogs travel to take on Concordia in an NCKL dual, while the Wildcats face off against Big Seven League foe the Sabetha Bluejays at home.
