Jeff West Girls and Boys Cruise Past ACCHS

Through the first three games of the 2016-17 high school basketball season Jeff West senior Nick Malloy was averaging 22 points per game.

On Tuesday night Malloy reached his average and then some, pouring in 29 points as Jeff West cruised past ACCHS 60-38 in Meriden.

Jeff West started fast with a 10-0 run to begin the ballgame, as Malloy connected on two 3-pointers in the first couple minutes which allowed the Tigers to take a 13-3 lead after the first quarter.

Malloy really got going in the second quarter drilling three more 3-pointers and tallying 11 total points in the quarter to push the Jeff West lead to 21 at halftime, 30-9.

After Jeff West scored the first five points of the third quarter, ACCHS finally showed some life going on a 9-0 run keyed by two treys from junior Tate Smith. The Tigers from Effingham outscored Jeff West 17-12 in the third quarter and cut the deficit to 16 heading into the fourth quarter.  

But, Malloy closed out the game going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter while fellow senior Hunter Dean added 5 points as ACCHS never got closer than 14 points.

Jeff West (2-2, 2-1 Big 7) closes out the 2016 portion of the schedule Friday at home against Holton (3-1, 3-1), while ACCHS (0-4, 0-3) travels to Hiawatha (2-1, 2-1) which can be heard on the KAIR Sports Channel.

GIRLS

The Jeff West girls’ basketball team started strong Tuesday night and never looked back flying by ACCHS at home 53-16.

Jeff West jumped out to a big lead early keyed by 10 first quarter points from sophomore Aailyah Negonsott to take a 20-4 advantage after the first frame. The Tigers leading scorer on the season Mariah Murdie keyed a 15-point second quarter, as the junior tallied 6 points in the frame to push the Jeff West lead to 35-12 at the break.

The third quarter is where Jeff West really put the game away, as the Tigers held ACCHS to just 2 points in the frame pushing the game to the 30 point threshold heading into the fourth quarter forcing a running clock.

Jeff West forced 11 ACCHS turnovers in the ballgame and shot 19 free throws while making 13.

Next up for Jeff West (3-1, 2-1 Big 7) is Holton (3-1, 3-1) Friday before the holiday break, while ACCHS (0-4, 0-3) heads to Hiawatha (3-0, 3-0) which can be heard on the KAIR Sports Channel
