Holton Wildcats Compete at 54th Newton Wrestling Tournament of Champions

The Holton Wildcats hit the mats at the 54th Newton Tournament of Champions over the weekend and faced some top flight competition. 

Three top eight finishes paced the Wildcats in Newton as they finished 16th as a team out of 24 teams. 

Behind a 4-1 record Kyler Tannahill wrestled his way to second place at 285lbs picking up three pinfall victories in his first three bouts of the day winning in 2:15, 1:39 and 2:40. In the Semifinals Tannahill won a tight 6-3 decision to advance to the finals were he fell via pinfall and took second place. 

Going 4-1 on the mats in Newton was Tyler Price who at 170lbs earned third place. Price won his first two bouts by pinfall in 1:37 and 4:17 but in the Semifinals fell in a tough 3-2 decision contest. He bounced back to win by a major decision 11-1 and by pinfall in 2:57 to claim third place. 

After a 3-3 day on the mats Taygen Fletcher finished eight at 113lbs for the Wildcats in Newton. Fletcher's three wins all came via decision winning 9-4, 3-1 and 7-4. 

Seven other grapplers were in action for Holton in Newton and five of the seven registered at least one win on the mats in the tournament. Tel Wittmer (220lbs) and Ace Eisenbarth (152lbs) each posted a 2-2 record, while Cael Jackson (145lbs), Lawson Henry (132lbs) and Kolby Roush (120lbs) each went 1-2 in action. 

Logan Cannon (160lbs) and Cameron Smith (106lbs) both also were in action for Holton. 

The Wildcats will hit the mats again on Saturday, January 21st when they host at tournament.
