Valley Heights Boys & Girls Win Riley County Track Invite

Four Twin Valley League track squads traveled to Riley County on Friday to continue their track season and put on strong performances. 

Valley Heights Mustang girls and boys galloped back home with two team titles on the day as the girls posted 112 points winning by eight and the boys notched 78 points to win by five and half points. In the girls competition Axtell and Frankfort took third and fourth as teams, while Blue Valley-Randolph finished eighth out of 12 teams. For the boys Axtell, Frankfort and Blue Valley posted team finishes of eighth, ninth and tenth out of 12 schools. 

Valley Heights track teams continue their strong seasons individually and as teams. In the girls competition four different girls won at least two events. Skyler Saunders earned first place in the high jump (5'04) and pole vault (9'03), while taking second in the triple jump. Kayla Smith won both the 100 meter dash (12.53) and triple jump (37'08.75) and took second in the long jump. Sam and Shelby Vermetten each grabbed a pair of first place finishes each as Sam won the 400 (1:00.77) and 800 (2:26.91) meter runs, while Shelby took first in the shot put (37'11.75) and discus (127'11.50). The lady Mustangs also placed second in the 4x400 meter relay and third in the 4x800. 

In the boys competition Valley Heights was led by their 4x800 meter relay team who captured first place with a time of 8:39.01, while Harrison Blaske won the javelin with a toss of 153'10 the 4x400 meter relay team took second. Both Adrian Pishny and Logan Woodyard notched a pair of Top three finishes as Pishny placed second in the 3200 and third in the 1600 meter run, while Woodyard earned second in the triple jump and third in the long jump. Alex Hardin and Jeremy Reed finished second and third in the 800 meter run, while Hunter Stevenson took third in the javelin. 

Emilee Ebert led the Frankfort Wildcats on the day leaping to first place in the long jump with a leap of 17'05 and also took second in the 100 meter dash. Grace Dressman earned second place in the pole vault, while Kennen Brandt took third in the pole vault and Kaci Vaughn finished third in the javelin. Lady Wildcats 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay took third place. Brenden Levi and Rylen Bailey each took second place in the boy’s 400 meter dash and pole vault, respectively. 

Axtell boys were led by Burke Deters who with a time of 10:17.19 took first place in the 3200 meter run, while finishing second in the 1600 meter run. The Eagles boys 4x800 meter relay team snagged second place, also. In the girls competition the lady Eagles won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 51.83, while Olivia Kuckelman took second in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs and Mariah Deters placed second in the high jump and third in the long jump.

A jump of 5'08 earned Cole Montgomery first place in the high jump, while also finishing third in the 3200 meter run. Georgia Hatesohl won the girls 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.27 and finished second in the 300 meter hurdles. Both Abby McIntrye and Elizabeth Wright earned third place in the high jump and discus, respectively.

All four teams now turn their attention to the Twin Valley League meet next Thursday, May 11th at Washington County.
