Frankfort Wildcats Clip Wings of Wetmore Cardinals For Road Sweep

The regular season is coming to an end and teams are looking to build momentum for the postseason and Frankfort girls and boys went on the road and grabbed a pair of victories against the Wetmore Cardinals. In a pair of tight games in the first half it was strong second halves that earned Frankfort the wins as the girls won 68-42 and the boys won 74-58. 

GIRLS 

Using a 6-0 run early Wetmore took a 12-6 lead early on in the contest but a pair of Emilee Ebert three-pointers to end the first quarter tied the game at 12-12. The game remained tight in the second stanza and Wetmore tied the affair at 22-22 with 1:05 remaining just before halftime but it was Frankfort with another 6-0 run this time to end the first half giving them the 28-22 lead at the half. Ebert led the charge for Frankfort recording 18 points for the first half. The Wildcats set the tone in the second half and controlled the pace to push their lead to double figures in the third quarter and finished the game behind a 23-9 fourth quarter to secure the 68-42 win. 

Ebert led the Frankfort pouring in 30 points in the contest earning her Community National Bank "Player to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio. Jessa Yaussi chipped in 11 points as nine different girls scored for the Wildcats. Frankfort with the win improved to 15-4 on the season and 8-3 in the Twin Valley League. 

The loss sends Wetmore to 7-11 on the season and 2-9 in TVL play. McKayla and Jill Henry led the Cardinals with nine points each. 

Both teams wrap up the regular season next week as Frankfort will host Onaga on Monday, February 19th, while Wetmore will travel to Troy for a matchup on Tuesday, February 20th. 

BOYS

Frankfort jumped out to a 9-2 advantage early on but Wetmore answered back with a 7-0 run to tie the contest at 9-9 and the Wildcats led by a slim margin 16-14 at the end of the first quarter. The lead grew to 10 points at 30-20 for Frankfort in the second quarter and went into halftime up 35-27. At the half Brandon Anderson led Frankfort with 16 points, while Wetmore had Joel Hutfles with 14 points a intermission. Full control of the game was taken by Frankfort out of halftime as the Wildcats went on an 8-0 run to open the third quarter and posted a 25-12 frame to ultimately guide themselves to the win over Wetmore 74-58. 

Anderson led Frankfort matching his season best with 25 points hitting four three-pointers, while Mitchell Olson was strong inside the paint finishing with a season best 18 points and plenty of rebounds. The duo of Anderson and Olson earned Community National Bank "Player's to Bank On" honors on KMZA radio. The win moves Frankfort to 7-12 on the season and 5-6 in the Twin Valley League. 

Wetmore in the loss was led by Ethan Osterhaus who scored 24 points, while Hutfles notched 21 points. The Cardinals with the loss fell to 5-14 on the season and 3-8 in TVL play.
