Both ACCHS & Royal Valley Have Wrestlers Finish in Top 6 in Weight Classes at Bobcat Classic

The wrestling season continues with regional action about a month away for wrestling squads across the state of Kansas. Over the weekend the ACCHS Tigers and Royal Valley Panthers both competed in the Bobcat Classic hosted by Basehor-Linwood. Both teams registered wrestlers finishing in the top six of action in their respective weight classes with 36 schools represented at the tournament.

For the Tigers ranked wrestlers Taylor Schuetz (160lbs) and Willy Diekmann (126lbs) both finished in the top six with Schuetz taking sixth and Diekmann placing fifth. Schuetz started the day winning his first two matches both via pinfall and under a minute in 50 and 51 seconds, after that he fell in the quarterfinal action falling to the consolation bracket. Taylor responded with pair of wins via decision before finishing the day with losses in his last two matches to go 4-3 on the day. For, Diekmann he just like Schuetz won his first two matches then fell in the quarterfinals, moving into the consolation bracket were he would win three of four matches to finish fifth; winning the fifth place match via major decision, 9-0. Diekmann overall on the day went 5-2.

Royal Valley on the day took home three top six finishes behind the performances of Tanner Ogden (152lbs), Christian Matthews (170lbs) and Tristen Matthews (182lbs). Christian Matthews had the best finish on the day for the Panthers placing fourth as he opened the day 3-0 making it to the semifinals when he suffered his first loss of the day. Christian responded with a win in the consolation bracket but fell in the third place match to finish 4-2 on the day, but his four wins all came via pinfall. Tanner Ogden earned the second best Panther finish on the day with a fifth place finish going 5-2 on the day. Ogden fell in the quarterfinals to get bumped to the consolation bracket but he won his last match for fifth beating his opponent by decision. Tristen Matthews earned a sixth place finish on the day for Royal Valley going 4-3, after opening 2-0, Matthews loss his first match then responded with a pair of wins before falling in his final two matches.

Santa Fe Trail's, Andy Dennison placed fourth in his weight class of 132lbs with a 4-2 record on the day.
