KBCA Releases Latest Rankings --- January 14th

The Midseason bracket time is upon us and right before all the tournaments get into full swing the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association has released its new set of rankings. This week 12 Kanzaland area teams find themselves in the latest set of rankings by the KBCA.

Starting off in Class 4A for the Kanzaland area there is only one team ranked that is the Lady Wildcats of Holton who remain ranked second in the polls and are 8-1 on the season having won eight straight after opening the year with a loss to the number one team in girls 4A, Wamego. Holton continued their domination in the Big Seven dispatching Santa Fe Trail recently to win their 105th consecutive league contest.

There is only two schools in the Kanzaland area that can boost that both their girls and boys basketball teams ranked one of those schools the ACCHS Tigers are ranked in the Class 3A rankings. The Lady Tigers suffered their first loss of the season recently to Jefferson County North but are 8-1 on the season and looking to rebound from that lost and check in the polls at number seven this week. For the boys Tigers squad they had a tough test against Jefferson County North recently but pulled out the win and remained unbeaten at a perfect 9-0 on the season. Another unbeaten in the boys 3A rankings is the state runnerups for last year in Nemaha Valley as they are 9-0 on the season cruising in wins over Hiawatha, Royal Valley and Jeff West post holiday break.

In Class 2A two area teams continue to find themselves in the rankings one girls squad and one boys team. On the girls side the Washington County Tigers continue to dominate on the hardwood as they are 10-0 on the year and the number one seed in this years TVL tournament and are trying to win it for the third straight year. While in the boys rankings the Onaga Buffaloes are ranked seventh and now 8-2 on the season after a loss in the TVL tournament and look responded after the loss.

Class 1A-Division I there is only boys teams that are ranked in the latest KBCA rankings both hailing from the TVL in Centralia and Valley Heights. Centralia moved to 6-3 after another in the TVL tournament and winning their last three contests, while Valley Heights improved to 7-2 on the year with a win of their own in the TVL tournament also on Monday. Both the Panthers and Mustangs moved on to the semifinals of the TVL tournament with wins yesterday.

Four teams from the area are ranked in Class 1A-Division II with three girls squads and one boys team in the rankings. On the girls side the Lady Falcons of Baileyville-B&B who are 9-1 on the season advance to the TVL tournament semifinals with a overtime win over Centralia. The Lady Cardinals of Wetmore check in at number six in the latest polls as they are 6-3 on the season after falling to Valley Heights in a tight ball game in the TVL tournament quarterfinals. The Lady Wildcats of Frankfort are also in the rankings and they are in the TVL tournament semifinals also after beating Linn in the quarterfinals and improving too, 8-1 on the season. The lone boys squad ranked in Class 1A-Division II is from the other school that features both girls and boys teams in the rankings from the Kanzaland area and that is the Baileyville-B&B Falcons. B&B recently just suffered their second loss of the season falling to Axtell in the TVL tournament as the Eagles account for both B&B losses this year.
