Nemaha Valley Boys Return to State Tourney
By Justin Fluke

Nemaha Valley 64, ACCHS 48
The only time Nemaha Valley trailed was 3-0, and they scored 9 straight points with 7 of those by energized senior, Creighton Brinker.  The game was tied at 9 briefly before NV took a four point lead at the end of one quarter.  The Raiders were only up 26-23 at halftime, but put the game away with an 18-9 third quarter and qualified for the state basketball tournament for a 6th consecutive year!

#2 seed Nemaha Valley hit 14 of 16 free throws in the final quarter as ACCHS never got closer than 11.  NV was led by Caleb Meyer, who scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half with Brinker got in foul trouble, although Creighton still finished with an 18 point night.  Trent Olberding added 11 for the Raiders who improve to 22-1 and return to Hutchinson where they were state runner-up to Scott City.  It looks like the Beavers and Raiders will be the number 2 and 3 seeds this year with one loss each and Humboldt the lone 3A boys undefeated.

ACCHS made 6 of 12 treys in the first half to stay close but was only 1 of 11 behind the arc in the final two quarters.  Jacob Hansen scored 9 of his 14 in the final quarter after the game was decided and ACCHS ended their season 22-1.  Nathan Miller added 10 for the Tigers, who haven't lost a regular season game the past three years.

Friday Night 3A Boys Semifinal =  ACCHS 56, Sabetha 54 in 2 OT
In one of the most exciting games of the year, ACCHS avoided an upset and rallied by 7 points down in the final :90 of regular to tie the game and force overtime.  The Tigers then led through most of overtime before Gaven Schumann hit a long trey to tie the score at 47 and send the game to another extra session.  Jacob Hansen hit two early shots in double-overtime and the Tigers made 5 of 8 foul-shots to hold on for the win.  Hansen finished with 19 points in the thriller and Quentan Reichart added 12 and Ricky Kearney 10 as the Tigers hit five three's and 15 of 22 free throws in the game.  Sabetha was led by Jacob Frey who scored 19 and missed a driving shot in the lane before the final buzzer.  McKenzie McAfee scored 14 and Schumann 12 for the Bluejays, who end their season 14-8.
