Mother Nature has not been nice to all spring sport teams across the Midwest, whether it is collegiate, high school, or middle school teams. She made her presence felt even more this past weekend as she forced the cancellation of the remainder of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) baseball tournament. This ended the hopes of the Peru State Bobcat baseball team of having a repeat national tournament performance.

The 2013 HAAC tournament was called off on Saturday due to unsafe playing conditions.  Based on the HAAC Baseball Procedural Manual, the teams with the best records in tournament play are declared the winner and runner-up.  Central Methodist University and Avila University both took a 2-0 mark into Saturday's games while Peru State and Evangel University had 1-1 records.  Based on the tie-breaker, Central Methodist was named the winner as the higher seed.  Avila was named the runner-up and became the second qualifier for the NAIA World Series Opening round since Central Methodist had won the regular season title.

Peru State finished with a 27-16 record, which included a 13-game winning streak going into the HAAC tournament.  Six Peru State seniors finished their season with a win over Benedictine on Wednesday night before Mother Nature invoked her fury.
