Highland Community College softball coach Heidi Jordan made a quick transition after leading her Scottie squad to the fourth straight National Tournament. She recently joined the Akron Racers in the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league as the assistant coach this summer and will manage not only the largest, but the most diverse group of pitchers in the NPF.

A 2000 Highland alumnae who was named All Conference and All Region as a pitcher and designated hitter, Jordan has been highly successful with the Scotties in her nine season as head coach, sitting on a 325-191 records and the four consecutive NJCAA Tournaments. Her colleagues in the Eastern Division of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference recognized her as the Coach of the Year in 2006 when her Scotties achieved a 33-23 record after going 13-30 the year before.

The Scotties found their place in the HCC record book under Jordan’s direction in 2012, as they set a record for the most single-season wins in school history, 48, and recorded the longest win streak with 25 straight victories. During her career at Highland, Jordan helped her student-athletes become NJCAA Players of the Week, earn All-American honors, and move on to play at NCAA Division I programs.

After completing her degree at Highland, Jordan received her bachelor’s degree from Missouri Western State University in 2002, and then quickly returned to the Scotties as the assistant softball coach in 2003.

The Akron Racers, headquartered in Akron, OH, are the oldest existing team in the National Pro Fastpitch league. The Racers competed in the Women’s Pro Softball League (WPSL) for two seasons in 1999 and 2000 and in the NPF since 2004. Historic Firestone Stadium is home to the Racers and numerous amateur events at all level of play. The Racers kick-off their 12^th season of play in 2013.

The National Pro Fastpitch league is headquartered in Nashville, TN. The league, created to give elite female fast pitch players the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport, has operated since 1997 under the names of Women’s Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women’s Pro Softball League (WPSL). NPF has been the official Development Partner of Major League Baseball in the category of women’s fast pitch softball since 2002.
