Highland Track Competes at Regional Championships

Highland Scotties track team competed in the Region VI Outdoor Track Championships this past weekend against many fellow KJCCC teams in Arkansas City, KS.

Scotties took home a tenth place performance for the men out of 14 teams and the ladies finished twelfth out of 13 teams competing. Six Highland competitors posted top five finishes on the day while and many other top 10 finishes.

Leading the way with the best showing on the day for Highland was Steven Hill won leapt his way to a pair of second place finishes in the long jump (7.30m) and the triple jump (15.32m). Tyus Jacob also took home a silver medal finishing second in the 400 meter dash with time a time of 48.10. While, Brian Martinez also notched a top five showing for the men, finishing fifth in the 1,000 meter run behind a time of 33:36.27.

In the women's competition it was Krista Wilgers and Mandy Wilson highlighting the Scotties day each posting a third place showing. Wilgers tossed her way to the bronze in the javelin with a toss of 37.77m, while Wilson posted a time of 2:19.36 to grab third place in the 800 meter run.

Five Scotties notched six sixth place finishes in competition with former Horton Charger Jacob Lott notched two of the five placing sixth in the shot put and discus. Whilem Brett Simhauser finished sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and for the women Crystal Hoard took sixth in the 1500 meter run, Jasmine Miller in the 400 meter hurdles and Shaina Carthan in the long jump. Carthan added an eighth place showing in the triple jump and Miller added a ninth place in the 100 meter hurdles.

Both Serge Trezy and Cody Catterson each had a top 10 finish, too in the 100 meter dash and javelin, respectively placing ninth and seventh, while Taylor Smith-Brown and Thaina Jensen finished tied for eighth in the high jump and ninth in the javelin, respectively.
