Jackson Heights Cobra, Cameron Thomas Helping Team Strike Down Opponents
Cameron Thomas

Snake bitten that has been Wetmore, St. Mary’s, Onaga and Mission Valley to start the season as the Jackson Heights Cobras notched wins against all four of them and sit a 4-0 on the season.

The Cobras opened the season with a 74-57 win at home over Wetmore and then went 3-0 last week at St. Mary’s to win the St. Mary’s Duels and one reason the Cobras are notching wins early in the season is the play of senior, Cameron Thomas.

Thomas led the charge for the Cobras in during the St. Mary’s Duels as he led the team in scoring in all three victories. First up the Cobras struck with a 67-39 decisive win over Mission Valley and Cameron posted 19 points to lead four Cobras in double figures in the win. Last Thursday Jackson Heights didn’t quite get to the 60 point plateau but notched the 13-point win, 52-39 over Onaga as Thomas tallied 21 points in the win. The senior continued his uptick in points in the next game for Jackson Heights as he poured out 27 points in a 30-point win over St. Mary’s, 64-34.

From the season opener when Cameron scored 17 points in the win over Wetmore, the senior’s points total has steadily grown a few points each game thus far as the Cobras are off to a 4-0 start this season and have moved into the latest KBCA rankings in Class 2A coming in at number nine in the latest poll.

While scoring is a huge part of Cameron’s game he’s gotten it down all over the court throughout the season posting 10 rebounds per game, three assists per game and 3.5 steals per game to go along with his 21 points per game average this season.

Thomas and the Cobras look to strike a few more times before the holiday break as they take on Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Royal Valley before Christmas time.
