Jolenna Wingerter continues to solidify her place among the top track and field athletes in St. Marys history.
She recently added another accomplishment to her standout career this past week by capturing the Big East League championship in the 100-meter dash with a fully automatic time of 12.34 seconds.
Wingerter currently holds or shares several school records, including the 4x100-meter relay record at 49.97 seconds and the long jump record with a mark of 17 feet, 8¾ inches.
She has qualified for the Kansas State Track and Field Championships every season, earning numerous state medals while competing against some of the top athletes in Kansas.
Wingerter’s achievements have also earned her the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level. She recently signed with Washburn, where she will continue her academic and athletic career as part of the Ichabods’ track and field program.
Head Track Coach Alex McConaghy: "Jolenna has the ability to use her future aspirations as a way to remind herself of participating in the present and focusing on her habits. She is one of the most focused members of our team and helps her teammates with so many aspects of progress — from block starts, to fine-tuning sprint mechanics, to just discussing strategy of the 400m dash, she is always there with her teammates, empowering them to the best of their abilities and helping them in finding out who they are becoming!"
