Atchison Lady Red, Sierra Smith Performs Well at KCA League Track

She is just a sophomore but already showcasing that she has top flight talent especially on the track as Atchison Lady Red, Sierra Smith has put together a strong track season thus far and looks to continue it when Regionals role around on Friday.

Last week Smith put the final touches on her track regular season by picking up two KCA League titles and teaming up with three of her teams for another in one of the relay competitions. Smith has been sprinting past the competition this season and did so at the League meet last week posting times of 12.49 and 25.68, respectively to claim the KCA League 100 and 200 meter dash titles. While also teaming up with Imogene Bratton, Mady Shipley and Akiela Gill to race to gold in the 4x100 meter relay behind a time of 50.16.

The sophomore has been putting together strong performances throughout the track season going back to the first meet of the year were she won the 100 and 200 meter dash titles and was part of the Lady Red’s winning 4x100 relay team at the Holton Invite.

Smith also competed at the KU Relays this year as part of the Redman’s Sprint Medley relay team and 4x100 relay team, along with competing individually in the 100 meter dash. Atchison finished with the 28th best time in the 4x100 (51.97) out of 47 teams, while the Sprint Medley team finished 11th out of 15 teams (4:42.98). Sierra individually showcased she is one of top sprints in the State in the 100 meter dash at the KU Relays finishing with the 11th best time of 41 competitors (12.54), just missing the cut for the finals by two spots.

The track season isn’t over yet as Smith and her Atchison teammates have their sights set on Regional competition in 4A this Friday and earning spots at the State competition at the end of the month.
