Valley Heights Mustang, Elijah Smith Starts Track Season Strong

Off and running and leaping, notching more top flight performances is Valley Heights Mustang senior, Elijah Smith already this track season as he opened his senior track season with a strong showing at his home meet.

The Valley Heights Mustangs played host to several fellow Twin Valley League teams and a few others last week and plenty of top notch performances were earned with Smith highlighting those performances claiming three golds and a silver.

The 1A State champ in three events as a junior picked up wins in the 110 meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump, while taking second place in the 200 meter dash. On the track behind a time of 15.13, nearly two seconds better than second place, Smith won the 110 meter hurdles, while taking second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.91. In the field events leaps of 21’08.50 and 43’05, respectively won the long jump and triple jump for the Mustang senior.

Smith who won the 1A State title in the triple jump (45’10.25), long jump (21’10.75) and 110 meter hurdles (14.68) and took fourth in the 200 meter dash (22.87) as a junior, appears poised to make noise all track season on his way to what he hopes is a return trip to Wichita and the State track meet to compete for the top spot again and go out on top. Elijah also won the 1A State title in the 110 meter hurdles and triple jump his sophomore year and after his senior year will continue his track career at Butler Community College.
