And their off, the cross country season has started with a flurry and plenty of top performances this season and Atchison senior, Sarah Jaloma is quite familiar with competing for the top spot in competitions.

Jaloma is off to a strong start in her senior year as she has won two of the three meets she’s competed in and took second in the other, while helping her team finish in the Top four or better each time, also.

Sarah notched a first place finish in the Hiawatha Invitational last week beating out the second place finisher by 1:12, posting a time of 20:10 to claim the gold. Atchison as a team finished second in at the meet only three points off of first place.

The season started off with a bang for Jaloma as she ran her way to first place at the Basehor-Linwood Invitational posting a time of 21:35.68 to win by 25 seconds, while also helping her team finish second place. She has also competed in the Wamego Invitational this year and took second place in the competition with a time of 20:01.50, while Atchison as a team placed fourth out of 18 teams in at the meet.

The senior has been at the top of Class 4A the last two seasons finishing third at State last year as a junior and fifth at State as a sophomore and looks to use her early season momentum in her senior campaign to compete as a top runner in 4A again.
