Troy Trojans Finish Season 2-1A State Runner-Ups

The Troy Trojans put together a season to remember a year ago making it to Sub-State for the first time this year they took is a step further and made it to the 2-1A State Championship and finished State runner-up capping off a season to remember.

Trojans started the season on the road at Washington County and fell to the Tigers in the week one but the early loss set off a strong run the rest of the season for Troy. In week two the Trojans took on the top team in the Twin Valley League for the past years in Centralia and Troy ended the Panthers long TVL winning streak and started what would be a 10-game win streak that won them a District title, earned them a playoff berth for the third straight year and a spot in the 2-1A State Championship.

After earning a playoff spot the Trojans hosted Wabaunsee in the opening round and took them down 67-20 to move on to Sectionals where they faced off against Lyndon on the road and beat them 58-21 to make it back to Sub-State for the second straight year. This year Troy host Olpe in Sub-State and got some revenge for their the loss to the Eagles the previous year as they battled back from an early 13-0 deficit to win 30-21 making the 2-1A State Championship game.

In Hays the Trojans took on Phillipsburg for the 2-1A State title and while the game was close for the entire of the contest the Panthers just edged Troy 30-29, giving the Trojans a State runner-up finish to the season.  

During the year the Trojans offense was a balanced attack with 215.4 rushing yards per game and 157.3 passing yards per game, while averaging 42.1 points per game. Five guys had 230+ rushing yards on the season with three of the five over 500 yards each, while seven different guys scored a rushing touchdown on the year. In the aerial attack the Trojans had three receivers with over 370 yards receiving and four different guys caught at least one touchdown pass on the season.

Defensively the Trojans forced 34 turnovers on the year with 19 interceptions, 19 fumble recoveries and a blocked punt, while giving up 21.5 points per game. The team scored three defensive touchdowns and also had a safety, while special teams contributed a pair of scores.

 

The Trojans finished the 10-2 and their best finish in school history in football as the team was balanced all year leading to the team’s success and a season to remember.
