Wil Smith

The Troy Trojans baseball team has been on a roll winning 12-straight after a pair of tough losses to start the season.

A big part of that success on the ball diamond has been the play of junior, Wil Smith who offensively has been hitting the cover off the ball with consistency all season. Last week the Trojans earned the sweep over Maur Hill-Mount Academy winning 15-4 and 8-1 and Smith continued his strong play. In the 15-4 game Smith was 4-5 with four RBI’s, four runs scored, two doubles, a home run and stolen base and even pitched one inning recording a pair of strikeouts. He followed that up with a 1-4 performance with two RBI’s and a run scored in the 8-1 victory.

On the year the Troy junior is batting .623 with 33 hits, 33 RBI’s, 24 runs scored, 12 doubles, eight home runs and six walks. Smith leads the team in average, RBI, doubles and home runs and is tied for the lead in runs scored. If the offensive production wasn’t enough Smith as contributed to the pitching staff making four appearances on the mound this season and even earning a win.

The junior with his teammates have the Trojans rolling to a 12-2 record on the season and are looking to close on the regular season strong and position themselves for another postseason run and perhaps a return trip to Great Bend for the 2-1A State tournament.
