Jackson Heights Cobra, Wyatt Olberding Filling The Stat Sheet
Wyatt Olberding

Coming off a 2A State Championship last year the Jackson Heights Cobra boys’ basketball team had some holes to fill and have put things together this year for a strong season so far sitting at 10-6 on the year.

One key piece to the team that returned to the fold this year was senior, Wyatt Olberding and he’s been leading the charge for the Cobras filling the stat sheet in a multitude of ways. The Cobras last week snagged wins over Pleasant Ridge, 68-49 and Oskaloosa, 44-34 and Olberding poured in 22 points in each of the wins. Against, Pleasant Ridge Wyatt added six rebounds, five assists and one steal to his 22 points, while against Oskaloosa the Cobra senior surpassed 1,000 points in his career.

Olberding on the year has not only lit up the scoreboard with 21 points per game, shooting 48% from the field and 31% from three-point range, along with 75% from the free throw line. He’s helped lead the team in many other ways too averaging 8.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 3.2 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. On the year Wyatt has tallied double figures in all 16 games for the Cobras, including nine times surpassing 20 points with a season high 33 points versus Valley Falls.

The Cobras and Olberding are looking to close out the regular season with momentum as they gear up for the postseason and look to make a run.
