Sabetha Bluejay, Elliot Strahm Claims 285lbs Class 3-2-1A State Wrestling Title

Winning a State title in any sport is never an easy thing and to say you are a State Champion in multiple sports in the same school year that is tough accomplishment to achieve but one Sabetha Bluejay has done just that.

After being a part of a 13-1 season the football field and helping the Sabetha Bluejay football team win the Class 3A State title junior, Elliott Strahm has continue his strong junior athletic year by claiming the Class 3-2-1A State wrestling title at 285lbs. Strahm went 4-0 at the State wrestling tournament winning in the first round and Quarterfinals by pinfall in 1:23 and 2:54. In the Semifinals he claimed a 3-1 sudden victory and followed that up with a 6-1 sudden victory in the Championship bout to win the 285lbs State title.

The Bluejay junior finished his wrestling season with a 39-8 record capturing the 285lbs State title after qualifying for State as a sophomore and an early exit at State. Strahm during the wrestling season picked up a Regional title going 3-0 at Regionals with three pinfall wins, while he took second at the Big Seven League tournament and won the Rossville Invite.

The junior also enjoyed success back in the football season with his teammates on the way to the Sabetha football State title and for Strahm he earned Top 33 All-State honors and was named 3A Defensive Player of the Year by publications.

Strahm capped a stellar year on the mats with a State title and added to his trophy case the Sabetha’s trophy case.
