Axtell Wideout Hunter Koch Ties State Record In Four Touchdown Performance
Hunter Koch

For the last four seasons the Kansas high school football record for touchdowns in career has stood at 57, held by Central Plain’s Layne Bieberle who accomplished the feat from 2012-2014.

After last Friday night Bieberle is no longer alone at the top, as Axtell senior Hunter Koch tied the record with four touchdowns in the Eagles 74-28 over Doniphan West.

The four touchdowns also brought Koch within two of the state record for touchdown receptions in a single which was set at 29 back in 1979.

Koch has put up remarkable numbers all season long, as the senior wideout has compiled 987 yards on just 57 receptions racking up 27 touchdowns and over 120 yards per game.

His biggest game came in the Eagles 58-12 win over St. Johns/Tipton to open up the season, as Koch recorded nine receptions for 167 yards and five touchdowns.

On the season Koch has had two games with five touchdowns and has gone over 100 yards in every game except for one.

Last season he compiled 1058 yards through the air with 20 touchdowns, averaging over 100 yards per game and nearly 15 yards per reception.

Koch will look to continue his strong season and break two state records Thursday night, as the 7-1 Eagles will open up the 8-man DII playoffs hosting Pike Valley with kickoff at 6:00 p.m..
