Corby Leads Nemaha Central Girls to 3-0 Start
Cassidy Corby

Last season the Nemaha Central girls basketball finished the year 24-0 and reached the state tournament semifinals before COVID-19 cancelled the remainder of the tournaments.

The Thunder were led throughout the season by Alleigh Kramer who named all-state by every publication, but with her departure to Benedictine College Nemaha Central head coach Hadden Hiltgen was looking for someone to step up and lead the team this year.

So far this season senior Cassidy Corby has seemed up to the task and so far has led the Thunder to a 3-0 record with a pair of double-digit performances last week.

In Nemaha Central’s 53-26 win over St. Marys on Tuesday, Corby led the way with 15 points before scoring 19 in the Thunder’s 59-33 win over Centralia on Friday which included a 17-point second quarter.

On the season she is averaging around 10 points per game which comes after averaging just over 7 points per game last season along with 4 rebounds and three assists a night.

She shot 36 percent from 3-point land last season and over 40 percent from 2-point range and so far this season has used her strong defense to turn it into offense while knocking down shots from the foul line.

Corby will look to lead Nemaha Central back to another league title this season and a potential redemption back at the state tournament come March.
