Holton Wildcat, Brenden Hampton Runs Wild in Win Over Sabetha
Brenden Hampton

Running wild, that would be Holton Wildcat senior tailback, Brenden Hampton this season who’s been spear-heading the potent Holton rushing attack that seemingly shreds opposing defenses on a weekly basis. In the first two weeks, it was Hampton taking over the primary ball carrying duties alongside Drake Ewing for the Wildcats.  As Hampton carried the ball 10 and 11 times and posted 105 and 101 yards against DeSoto and Santa Fe Trail, to compile 206 rushing yards while scoring three touchdowns in those two games.

Those numbers for two weeks equaled what the senior was able to do in this past week against Sabetha in a 63-6 home-opening win in week three action. Brenden carried it 13 times and cut up the Sabetha Bluejay defense to the tune of 257 yards rushing as the 3-0 Wildcats posted 568 rushing yards in the game. Hampton didn’t just stop at doubling his yards gained on the season, as he more than double his rushing touchdown total as well, finding the endzone four times. Overall Hampton accounted directly for 33 of Holton’s 63 points as he scored four touchdowns and was a perfect 9-9 in extra points in the game.

While the Wildcat senior, has ripped through defenses via the run his impact on the field for Holton has been felt in many other ways this season.  Hampton has caught one of the teams two passes, has 140 return yards on special teams, registered 10 defensive tackles, a sack, and a pair of interceptions, including a pick-six against Santa Fe Trail.  Adding in 20 of 21 PAT's; in total, Hampton has already scored 68 points himself this season in just three games. He led the Wildcats with 106 points scored in 2012.

Ground and pound is what the #1 ranked Holton Wildcats are built upon, and there’s no doubt that Hampton will be a spear end in the potent Wildcat wishbone attack all season as Holton looks to defend their undefeated Class 4A State football title in 2013.
