Nemaha Central Claim Second Straight Class 2A State Title

The Nemaha Central football team won their second straight Class 2A State Championship this past weekend in Salina over Hoisington 28-14.

Nemaha Central trailed 7-6 at halftime but would dominate the second half outscoring the Cardinals 22-7.

Sophomore quarterback Carter Hajek finished the game with 49 carries for 266 yards and four touchdowns. Sam Nordhus had a reception for 19 yards while Caleb Strathman had a reception for 12 yards.

On defense, Jack Macke, Josh Gonzalez, Holden Bass, and Abe Hilbert all finished with six total tackles. Macke and Hilbert each had a fumble recovery.

Nemaha Central was one of the most dominate teams in the state among all classifications on both sides of the ball averaging nearly 40 points per game while the defense gave up just 5.1 points per game. The defense posted eight straight shutouts between week two and week nine.

Nemaha Central have won 26 games in a row which is the second longest winning streak in the state.

The graduating seniors for the Thunder will be Cooper Kramer, Reid McKee, Jonah Deters, Aidan Broxterman, Aden Feldkamp, Carter Rottinghaus, Carter Sudbeck, Fedrico Turrisi, Josh Gonzalez, Wyatt Nocks, Seth Meyer, Holden Bass, and Abe Hilbert.
