Riverside's Connor Schultz Places 2nd in Triple Jump, 6 Other Area Athletes Compete at KU Relays

The KU Relays is always a big event in the the track and field world every year and one thing that makes the Relays so great is the fact its not just colleges competing by professionals and high schoolers competing in competitions, too.

This year six area athletes competed at the high school level at the KU Relays with a Riverside Cyclones earning a second place finish in the triple jump to highlight those performances.

Connor Schultz competed in three events at this years KU Relays and stood on the medal stand earning a silver medal after a second place finish in the triple jump. Her leap of 37-01 was only bested by one competitor of the 31 high schoolers to compete at the Relays. She, also competed in the long jump and 400 meter dash at the relays on top of the triple jump. In the long jump competition her leap of 16-03 earned her a 10th place finish out of 30 competitors in that event, while she placed 20th out of 36 in the 400 meter dash behind a time of 1:00.99.

Schultz's, teammate Allie Simonin also competed at the Relays racing in the 100 meter hurdles in which she finished 27th out of 34 competitors with a time of 17.36.

The only other area girl to compete at the Relays this year was Valley Heights Mustang, Brandi Jo Roepke. She competed in the 400 meter dash registering a time of 59.24 to finish 11th of the 36 competitors.

Fellow Mustangs joined Roepke at the KU Relays as Derek Trimble and Elijah Smith competed in the boys competitions. Trimble competed in the triple jump finishing 23rd of 36 competitors, registering a leap of 42-07.50. Smith, also competed in the triple jump finishing 15th behind a leap of 43-09.75, while also finishing 17th of 32 racers in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.67.

Holton Wildcat, Jaxon Wright competed alongside Smith in the 110 meter hurdles, while also competing in the 300 meter hurdles, too. Wright finished 13th of 32 in the 110 and 25th of 37 competitors in the 300, registering times of 15.39 and 42.69, respectively.

Brady Moore of Marysville was the lone other area athlete to compete at this years KU Relays at the high school level. Moore posted a time of 11.514 in the 100 meter dash which was the 30th best time of the 37 competitors.

KU Relays features top athletes from across the state and region every year and this year area high school competitors showed they can compete with some of the best.
