Holton, Atchison & Perry Lecompton Golfer Qualify For 4A State Tournament

Area 4A boy’s golf teams took to two different courses on Monday competing in two different Regionals to try and earn a spot at the 4A State tournament set for Tuesday, May 27th at Firekeeper golf course in Mayetta.

While no area team was able to claim a spot in the 4A State tournament, three individuals will compete at the 4A State tournament after some top 10 finishes at their respective Regionals.

At the Wamego Regional the Holton Wildcats finished third as a team posting a team score of 359, which was 20 strokes off the best score of the day a the top two teams tied for a team score at 339. While the Wildcats were able to qualify for State as a team, Ethan Holoday highlighted the day for Holton taking home the Regional individual title with the best round of the day posting an 81, winning by two strokes and qualifying for State as an individual.

Jeff West Tigers also competed at the Wamego Regional taking ninth as a team, while Royal Valley also had golfers compete at the Regional.

Atchison and Perry Lecompton both took to the golf course in Bonner Springs, in the Tonganoxie Regional to compete for a spot in the State. The Kaws finished sixth as a team with a 399 score, while Atchison placed ninth with a 464, both failing to qualify as teams for State but each had one individual qualify for State. Atchison Redmen, Gabe Julo continued his strong golf season placing eighth with a round of 86 and Perry Lecompton Kaw, Jacob Morgison followed him up in ninth after a round of 87, both qualify for State as two of the top five individual scores not from qualify teams on the day.

The trio of area golfers now turn their attention the 4A State competition next week in Mayetta as they look to close the year out on a high note.
