Six Area Kansas Schools Have Runners Compete at Rim Rock Cross Country Invitational

Six Kanzaland area schools took runners to one of the largest cross country regular season competitions during the year the Rim Rock Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas over the weekend.

Atchison, Pleasant Ridge, Washington County, Marysville and ACCHS all had runners compete at the annual Rim Rock Invitational with three Top 30 performances coming out of those performances form the area runners.

The competition is so large that the races are split into multiple varsity races with level of competition playing a factor and size of schools factoring into what race a school was placed into with similar schools of the same level of competition.

On the girl's side of competition all the area competitors competed in the Blue varsity race and it was Atchison's, Sarah Jaloma pacing the way with the best area showing placing eighth out of 282 runners, behind a time of 16:08.80. Her sister, Emily Jaloma notched the second highest showing by an Atchison runner finishing 51st, while Lyndi Hanson placed 79th, Hailey Macierowski took 96th place and Teagan Hanson placed 134th.

Pleasant Ridge Ram, Kristina Silvers grabbed the second best area girl's finish at Rim Rock placing 25th in the Blue varsity race posting a time of 17:07.20. Five other lady Rams ran at Rim Rock along with Silvers, as Bridget Howard finished 146th, Skylar Ling placed 172nd, Carly Simonis placed 186th, Grace Wagner finished 198th and Taylor Satre finished 218th.

ACCHS and Jeff West also had runners compete in the girl's Blue varsity race. For the Tigers Beba Scholz and Madison Bissell led the way placing 85th and 87th, respectively. While their teammates, Erin Hamilton (232nd), Caitlyn Fuller (253rd) and Katie Sullivan (262nd), also competed. The Jeff West Tigers were led by Makenzie Tucker who finished 73rd, while five other Tigers also ran on the day as Karli Fleischer (221st), Destiny Wright (242nd), Madison Kueny (270th), Janelle Debus (273rd) and Jaycie Jones (274th) and ran for the Tigers.

In the boy's competition on the day there was at least one area in all three varsity races. It was Washington County Tiger, Dylan Hodgson leading the way with the best showing placing 16th with a time of 16:24.00 in the boy's gold varsity race, featuring 217 runners.

The boy's crimson race featured runners from Marysville as Skylar Widmer (244th), Zach Pieschl (279th) and Lane Smith (296th) all ran in a race featuring 305 runners. 

Pleasant Ridge, Atchison and Jeff West boys took to the course in the blue varsity race; a race that featured 274 runners. The top showings in that race for the area came by Pleasant Ridge as Tyler Darrow and Luke Oatney finished 55th and 60th place, respectively. Clayton Price, Gabe Younger and Noah Tattershall also ran for the Rams and notched 89th, 97th and 140th place finishes, while Dayton Flack and Herken Reid placed 188th and 194th for the Rams, also.

For the Atchison Redmen, Justin Whitmer posted the best boy's performance for them placing 156th, while Benedict Horvatic took 180th, Alex Howard 199th, Dallas Woolston 244th and Spencer Vice 250th.

The Jeff West Tigers had seven runners compete in the blue varsity competition as Jacob Lawhorn posted the best Tigers performance placing 172nd. Austin Irvine (182nd), Conner Mickens (204th), Hunter Carter (215th), Liam Magathan (229th), Graham Straley (238th) and Jacob Valdivia (265th) all competed for the Tigers at Rim Rock.

Competition level was tough at Rim Rock as usual and will only help the area teams that competed as they continue their cross country season.
