Holton Starts Wrestling Season With 4-1 Mark at Spring Hill Duals

The back-to-back Class 4A defending State Champion, Holton Wildcats hit the mats for the first time this season back on Friday and put together a 4-1 record at the Spring Hill Duals.

Holton on the day competed against some up level top flight competition at the Spring Hill Duals and picked up wins against Olathe Northwest (43-32), Olathe South (53-14), Blue Valley West (70-7) and Shawnee Mission South (78-6). The Wildcats only loss on the day came against the currently ranked number one team in Class 4A in Chanute, as Holton fell in a tight bout 42-40.

Only two Holton grapplers competed in all five matches on the day and both Lucas Lovvorn and Mason Baum went a perfect 5-0 on the mats. Lovvorn at 160lbs notched a pair of pinfall wins, an 11-1 major decision, technical fall 16-0 and won via injury forfeit, also. For Baum at 170lbs he swept all his matches with pinfall victories to help lead the Wildcats.

Justin Rieschick, Tyler Price and Nathan Shields also finished undefeated on the day winning all their matches they competed in. Rieschick at 145lbs posted a 4-0 record with three pinfall wins and a 13-3 major decision win, while Price at 138lbs went 3-0 with two pinfall wins and a 13-2 major decision. Shields picked up a pair of pinfall wins at 220lbs on the day.

Nine other Holton Wildcats earned at least one win on the mats at the Spring Hill duals, with some other highlights on the day for Holton coming from Justin Pool at 132lbs going 3-1 with three pinfall wins, while, Kegan Meister went 2-1 with a pair of wins via pinfall at 285lbs and Ace Eisenbarth finished 2-2 with two pinfall wins at 120lbs. Brandon Lehnherr (195lbs), Kyler Tannahill (182lbs), Trey Haverkamp (152lbs), Sam Grandon (152lbs), Jameson Lutz (126lbs) and Coulter Bisel (113lbs) all had one win on the day.

Holton continues their wrestling season at home on Thursday when they host Jeff West, Santa Fe Trail and DeSoto in Quad competition.
