13 Area Wrestlers Earn Spots at State in 4A Wrestling at Baldwin Regionals - 3 Individual Champs

Thirteen area wrestlers claimed spots in the 4A State competition on Saturday by finishing in the Top four at the Baldwin Regionals. Four different area schools will be represented at the State competition with at least one grappler in competition after qualifying for State.

The Holton Wildcats earned second place at Regionals finishing behind host Baldwin and leading the way for the Wildcats was a trio of individual champions, as seven total Wildcats qualified for State. The number one ranked wrestler by the KWCA in Class 4A at 160lbs, Lucas Lovvorn continued his strong season by claiming the Regional title at 160lbs by going 4-0 with three pinfall wins including winning the championship bout in 41 seconds. Justin Rieschick (145lbs) who ranks second in Class 4A at 145lbs brought home a Regional title also, by going 4-0 with three pinfall wins and a 15-3 major decision win in the championship bout. Justin Pool (132lbs) joined Rieschick and Lovvorn atop the podium claiming a Regional title by going 3-0 with a 7-3 decision win in the championship match.

Mason Baum (170lbs), Tyler Price (138lbs), Nathan Shields (220lbs) and Kegan Meister (285lbs) picked up second, third and fourth place finishes for the Wildcats. Baum took home second place at 170lbs with a 2-1 day on the mats, while Price and Shields each finished third and Meister all placed fourth for Holton. Price put together a 4-1 day on the mats for third, while Shields was 2-1 and Meister finished the day 2-2 for fourth.

Jeff West Tigers had a trio of grappler’s qualify for State as they finished eighth as a team at Regionals, while fellow Big Seven League member the Royal Valley Panthers had a pair of grapplers qualify for State with Top four finishes at the Baldwin Regional. Nicholas Reeb (152lbs) led the charge for Jeff West finishing second after going 3-1 on the day while, Sam Shenk (195lbs) and Michael Majors (285lbs) each earned third and both posted 3-1 records on the mats.

For Royal Valley Jacob Box (182lbs) and Noah Hart (14lbs) qualified for State after finishing third and fourth, respectively in their weight classes going 2-2 and 3-2 on the mats.

Atchison Redmen, Spencer Vice also qualified for State after wrestling his way to a third place finish at 132lbs, going 4-1 on the mats at Regionals.

The 13 area State qualifiers will take to the mats at the 4A State competition next Friday and Saturday February 27th and 28th in Salina at the Bicentennial Center.
