Six Area Wrestler's Earn Senior Award from KWCA

Every year the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association hands out Senior Award honors to senior wrestlers across the State that excel on the mats and in the classroom. This year six area grapplers earned honors in Class 3-2-1A and 4A.

To earn the Senior Award honors, grapplers must have posted a .500 record or better with a minimum of 15 matches, while posting a cumulative GPA of 3.5+ for first team honors or 3.0-3.49 for honorable mention.

Three Onaga Buffalos and one Sabetha Bluejay earned Senior Award honors in Class 3-2-1A this year, while the Buffalos also earned honorable mention honors as a team in the Team Academic Championship honors give out by the KWCA. Jonathan Fairbanks earned first team honors going 25-18 on the year with his season ending at Regionals going 2-2 at 126lbs, while Kyle Ames (182lbs) and Dustin Blow (195lbs) both earned honorable mention honors. Ames on the mats finished 42-6 on the season and went 2-2 at State, while Blow also qualified for State finishing the year 43-5, going 2-2 at State. Sabetha Bluejay, Jacob Leuthold capped off his high school wrestling career with a fourth place showing at State going 4-2 at State and finishing the year 24-5 and earned first team honors. 

In Class 4A two Holton wrestlers earned Senior Award honors as Nathan Shields earned first team and Lucas Lovvorn registered honorable mention honors. Shields competed at 220lbs and qualified for State for Holton finishing the year 23-13, while Lovvorn capped off his year by winning his second straight State title, claiming first at 160lbs in 4A and finishing the year 44-1.
