Holton Leads Performances at Sabetha Boys Golf Invite

Eight area boys golf teams and nine overall hit the course to tee it up in Sabetha as the Bluejays hosted their Sabetha Invitational on Monday.

The Holton Wildcats highlighted the action bring home three of the top four scores in the four competitions, six-man, four-man and two-man teams and individual scoring. Holton captured the six and four man top scores, while having an individual golfer post the best round on the day, while Sabetha won the two-man competition.

With a overall score of 552 Holton won the six-man competition by 21 strokes, as Nemaha Central took second with a 573 and Sabetha finished third with a 582. Maur Hill-Mount Academy and Silver Lake finished out the six-man scores posting 597 and 685 team scores.

In the four-man action, Holton notched a 351, winning by 33 strokes of Maur Hill who took second with a 384 score, while Nemaha Central placed third with a 389. Sabetha, Hiawatha and Silver Lake finished off the four-man scores with scores of 411, 470 and 472.

Eight of the nine schools competing on the day fielded two-man teams and it was the host Sabetha Bluejays picking up the win by 13 strokes, posting a combined score of 171. Nemaha Central and Marysville rounded out the Top three team two-man scores with rounds of 184 and 197, respectively. Holton edged Atchison by one-stroke for fourth with a team score of 201, as Atchison posted a 202 to take fifth. Maur Hill, Silver Lake and Horton finished off the team two-man score standings finishing sixth, seventh and eighth with scores of 213, 213 and 236.

Individually the Holton Wildcats grabbed three of the Top 10 rounds on the day including the Top two rounds as Hayden May and Braden Sides finished first and second, respectively with rounds of 83 and 84. Garett Beecher shot a 91 to grab tenth place on the day and with May, Sides and Jack Sides (93) posted the Wildcats four-man team score. Nils Bergsten (105) and AJ Haussler (96) partnered for Holton's two-man team.

Sabetha Bluejays had a pair of Top five finishers as Connor Epple posted an 84 for third and an 87 by Reese Lierz earned him fifth place, as both guys won the two-man competition together. The quartet of Corbin Halls (93), Noah Garber (103) , Jonah Montgomery (106) and Camden Wenger (109) made up the Bluejays four-man team.

The Maur Hill Ravens also had a pair of Top 10 finishers as Christian Wessel and Pat Sullivan took fourth and eighth, respectively with rounds of 86 and 90. Wessell and Sullivan teamed with Canyon Miller and Sam Sowers who each posted a round of 104 to make up the Ravens four-man team, while Nolan Dulac (103) and Drew Harris (110) also competed on the day for Maur Hill as the two-man team.

Marysville Bulldog, Joe Ellenbecker took home sixth place individual with a round of 89 and his teammate Nick Ackerman posted a round of 108 for Marysville.

For Nemaha Central, Zach Bradley led the way with score of 90 on the day to place seventh and along with Blake Mohney (94) made up the Thunder's two-man team score. Tristan Allen (92), Dylan Enneking (95), Auston Shepley (97) and Michael Loug (105) partnered to compete as Nemaha Central's four-man team at the Sabetha Invite.

Atchison Redman, Gabe Julo led Atchison placing ninth after a round of 91 and along with Jase Nelson (111) accounted for the two-man score for the Redmen. Dustin Goodman (116) and Austin Ober (126) both also competed for Atchison on the day.

The Horton Chargers were led by Cameron Smith who posted a round of 107 and along with Rex Bruning who shot a 129 made up the Chargers two-man team, while Ryler Rodvelt also competed on the day posting a 139.

Hiawatha had five competitors in action on the course and the foursome of Tom Nolte (113), Keenan Hinton (114), Josh Sangrait (117) and Zach Perry (126) posted the Red Hawks four-man team score, while Lucas Holladay also competed for Hiawatha notching a 114 at the Sabetha Invite.
