Holton Wrestling Takes Ninth at Baldwin Invite Behind Six Top Seven Finishes

The Holton Wildcats hit the mats on Saturday as part of the Baldwin Invitational and competed against top flight competition from across the State finishing ninth out of 16 teams in action, as six Wildcats had Top seven finishes. 

Six Holton grapplers competed at the Baldwin Invitational and all six finished seventh or better in their respective weight class. Leading the way was Tyler Price who posted a 3-0 day on the mats to bring home first place at 152lbs and improve to 28-5 on the season. Price started the day with a bye and then in the Quarterfinals picked up a 9-6 decision win and followed that up with a 15-0 technical fall victory to move into the Championship bout. In a tight match in the Championship against a wrestler from Eudora, Price picked up the 6-3 decision and claimed the 152lbs title at the Baldwin Invitational. 

Second place on the podium was earned by Justin Rieschick after going 3-1 in action at 145lbs. Rieschick started the day with a pinfall win in 44 seconds in the opening round and followed that up with wins in the Quarterfinals and Semifinals by technical fall 16-0 and pinfall in 2:54 getting him into the Championship bout. In the Championship match Rieschick lost a tough 8-6 decision to a wrestler from Basehor-Linwood giving him second place on the day and a 26-3 record on the year. 

The other four Holton wrestlers in action on the day all finished fifth, sixth or seventh on the mats at the Baldwin Invitational. Kyler Tannahill put together a 3-2 day with three pinfall wins in 46 and 24 seconds and 3:27 to finish fifth place at 195lbs, making him 25-12 on the season. While both Spencer Baum and Tel Wittmer both brought home sixth place finishes in the weight classes of 160lbs and 220lbs, respectively. Both Baum and Wittmer recorded 2-3 records on the day and are 9-7 and 20-8, respectively on the season. Jameson Lutz wrapped up the Holton Wildcat performances on the day taking seventh at 170lbs. Lutz lost his first match of the day but responded to win the final three and take seventh place going 3-1 to move to 23-8 on the season. 

Holton will hit the mats again on Thursday at the Wamego double dual before gearing up for the Big Seven Tournament on Saturday, February 13th.
