Seventeen Area Athletes Earn All-State Baseball Honors from KABC

Full 2016 KABC All-State Baseball Honors - 4A-DI, 4A-DII, 3A & 2-1A

It was a strong baseball season for the Kanzaland area as four teams made it to State and two had top three finishes including a State Champion. The Kansas Association of Baseball Coaches have announced All-State honors and 17 area athletes picked up honors this year. 

The Nemaha Central Thunder just in their fourth year into the program wrapped up their season 23-1 and claimed the Class 3A State title. Two Thunder players earned All-State honors as senior, Kurtis Niehues earned first team honors at first base and freshman, Austin Gerety picked up second team All-State honors at third base. 

Three other area schools are represented in Class 3A KABC All-State honors as Royal Valley Panther senior, Garrett Schultz earned second team All-State honors in the outfield after helping the Panthers make the State tournament for the first time in school history. Oskaloosa Bear senior, Dalton VanHoutan snagged second team All-State honors at pitcher, while Maur Hill-Mount Academy Raven senior, Harry Trotter and junior, Noah Baniewicz both were honorable mention All-State at second and first base, respectively. 

The Troy Trojans had their best finish in school history with a third place finish at State as they made the State tournament for the third straight year and finished 20-3 this year. The Trojans also cleaned up on the postseason awards from the KABC as eight players earned All-State honors. Trojan seniors, Luke Smith and Tucker Morris picked up first team All-State honors at first base and outfield, while juniors, Wil Smith and Brody Winder also were named first team All-State at third base and closer. Two more Trojan juniors in Wyatt Huss and Cuttar Huss each earned second team All-State at pitcher and outfield, while junior, Reid Greaser and senior, Chris Winkel were named honorable mention All-State at closer and second base. 

Class 4A-Division I and II had some area players earn All-State baseball honors also. In 4A-DI Atchison Redmen senior, James Boatwright was named second team All-State pitcher, while in 4A-DII Holton Wildcat senior, Justin Rieschick and Jeff West Tiger senior, Keishon Brown both earned second team All-State at pitcher and outfield, respectively.
