Holton Girls Win 100th Big 7 Game In a Row
By Justin Fluke

Although two long winning streaks were snapped to start the season this year, the Holton girls continue to dominate the Big 7, and Tuesday night won their 100th consecutive game in league play.  The Lady Wildcats beat Hiawatha 69-24 to improve to 2-0 in league play this year and 3-1 overall.  The seven-time defending Big 7 Champs have won all their league tilts by 14 points or more the past 5 campaign's, with the only single digit victory coming against Sabetha by 8 points two years ago.

Holton lost to Class 4A #1, Wamego to start this 2012-13 season 38-32, which snapped a streak of 88 straight wins in the regular season and also 104  consecutive victory's away from the State Tourney in Salina.  The Holton girls have made 4A State the past six years and are currently ranked #3 in the state rankings behind Wamego and McPherson.  It was McPherson that beat Holton in the state title game a year ago and denied the Lady Cats back-to-back undefeated state championship seasons.

The Holton boys have won at least a share of the Big 7 Boys title for the past two years and seem to be back on track now that league play has begun.  The Wildcats started slow with non-league losses to Wamego and Hayden following their state championship football run.  Yet, Holton is now 2-0 in league play like the girls and coming off a convincing 69-22 rout against Hiawatha on Tuesday night.

Both Holton teams host Jeff West this Friday then play at Nemaha Valley December 18th before the holiday break.
