Lady Scotties of Highland Continue to Climb to #4 in National Rankings
By Mike Smith

Despite coming into this season with pretty much a completely revamped roster the Lady Scotties have picked up from were they were last year and that is winning plenty of ball games as they are off to a great start this season at a perfect 12-0 on the year, for head coach BJ Smith.

Scotties started the season off preseason ranked at #15 but have now climbed all the way to #4 in the latest national poll after dispatching the previous number one team in Johnson County by three, 59-56. Of the 12 games the Lady Scotties have played the game against Johnson County was the only single digit margin against their opponent; as the next closest game was a margin of 19 points.

Highland thus far this season is averaging 84.8 points per game and only giving up 46.8 points per game, with three players averaging double figures and no one on the team averaging below 3.5 points per game on the season. Freshman, Carina Jackson from Brazil is leading the team in scoring thus far this season as she posts 16.8 ppg, while sophomore, Janelle Saling adds 12.2 ppg. Sophomore forward, TaMiya Green is averaging a double-double this season with 13.6 ppg and 11.8 rpg.

Sophomore, Jaaron Kassanavoid and freshman from Puerto Rico, Ashley Torres are both averaging over nine points per game on the season, while Kassanvoid is grabbing six rebounds per game and Torres grabbing four.

Former Holton Wildcats, the Bowser sisters Ryann and Rylie are making their presence known on the team, too. Freshman, Ryann is averaging 8.3 ppg and 4.1 rpg, while leading the team in blocks this season with 13 on the year. Her older sister, Rylie a sophomore, is posting 5.5 ppg and 4.3 rpg, while leading the team in free throw percentage at 76% (19-25).

The Lady Scotties hit the hardwood once more before a break for the Holidays as they will head to Kansas City to take on Kansas City Community College on Saturday at 2:00pm.
