Highland Basketball Swept by Cowley County CC
By Mike Smith

The Highland Community College Scotties faced off against Cowley County Community College on the hardwood last night as the Lady Scotties looked to remain unbeaten and the Men Scotties looked to capture win number 11 on the season, but it would be Cowley County securing two victories on the night.

Number one ranked Lady Scotties hit the court a perfect 16-0 on the night but suffered their first loss of the season as the 12-3 Cowley County squad rolled into the Highland and won their thirteenth game of the season. Highland found themselves down 23-16 at the half and tired to battle back in the second half but Cowley County matched them in the second half to grab a 61-53 win. Carina Jackson was the only Scottie to register double figures on the night with 16 points, while Tamiya Green missed another double-double this season by one-point with nine points and 10 rebounds. Perhaps the biggest struggle for the Lady Scotties was from the free throw line were they went 1-11 for the game while Cowley County was 20-30 from the charity strip.

For the Men Scotties squad they suffered the same fate as did the ladies earlier in the night as the Cowley County came in and took a win home with them over the Scotties with a final of 67-55. Nine players scored in the game for the Scotties but no one registered double digits on the night as Llyod Young and Byrant Fultz both tallied nine points each to lead the Scotties. For Cowley County they finished with three players in double figures, out rebounded Highland by 10 and shot 10 percent better from the floor on the night than Highland (44.2% to 34.4%).

With the loss the Lady Scotties fall to 16-1 on the season and the men fell to 10-6 on the year. Scotties turn their attention to the a tough Johnson County team next as they both try to rebound. Highland heads on the road Saturday to take on Johnson County at 2:00 and 4:00pm for the ladies and men, respectively.
